As another simple goat herder and former Tarheel, I found you have to be simple to be a goat herder. I learned a few things about goats when I decided I needed them to keep my hills clear. You can keep goats anywhere they want to be. If they don't want to be there, there isn't a fence in the world that will hold them. I think any fence that will hold a goat will also hold water. I also learned that goats will start trying to reproduce by the time they are 2 weeks old and nannie goats are always pregnant.

What the heck???
I'll chime in along the same lines as many of the others........the deflector might be responsible for a portion of the decrease, but not THAT much. I think your experiment with taking it off for a tankful or two should help to clear up the theory that the deflector is responsible. I don't have a deflector on my '04 but did have one on my '01 Screw and it cause no appreciable drop in fuel economy when I put it on. I can say that with a high degree of confidence since I track mileage every time I fill up. What did help on my '04 Screw was the tonneau cover (+.8 mpg). Not much, but with gas at $2.35 per gallon, every little bit helps. I was wondering, in N.C., do they have summer blended fuel. In Phoenix, we have two different blends of fuel, one for the summer and one for the winter and the mpg difference can be substantial. Probably not an issue for you but thought it worthy of mention.

I think this "bugshield" might do a 3MPG decrease (or perhaps slightly more), but I know my truck ranges 3MPG over different tanks-different weather/driving/loaded/unloaded/etc. It might just be a bad tank, as was said before.

Well, I put in another tank of gas yesterday, I always go to the same gas station. Anyway, I'm back to 16 mpg average again. I guess I might have got a couple bad tanks of gas.
Thanks to everyone for the input.

How long have you had the truck? Not sure about everyone else...I got about 16 MPG on my 04 SCrew 4x for the first 3-4 months...Now I average only about 13 MPG consistently..but I cant say I have the lightest foot either.
