Toddzilla,

Like everyone else, I bought mine direct. I think that's the only way you can buy them. Yes, they're worth every penny too. Mine is also one of their very earliest units - with all of the lastest updates done by Valentine. I used their visor mount, but built a bracket that mounts it hard to the driver side visor clip. I then ran the wiring across and down the passenger A pillar and used a fuse tap to get into a circuit that comes on with the ignition. Looks like it came from the factory.

Question hmmm

I ran mine to the fuse box like some of you all but mine stays on all the time.....I ran it into the radio fuse to be specific. Is there anything I can do to make it turn on and off with the ignition? I am also under the influence that the higher the better. Especially with the 04-06 that sit so high that is lots of extra stopping time. Thanks in advance.

On V1 mount it high but on other detectors are suppose to be mounted low. Mine works great accept all the cops here run pop so its pretty useless until I update it.

cops generally aim at your front license plate so they have a flat surface to reflect off. (so ive heard). so i had mine set up right above the dash.. sold it though to someone who needed it more than me.

Since we've taken this thread off on a tangent...

Hey V-1 owners, you guys getting any false laser warnings? The 3rd brake light on GMC Envoys seem to set it off when I'm close (I do a lot of bumper to bumper traffic). Any body else?

Dave

No problem.

Ever driven in Atlanta?

You can drive the speed limit here, just be sure you are in the right lane with your flashers on.

The 75/85 signs through town? Those aren't the Interstate numbers, that's the minimum speed.

Finally a topic I know something significant about. Officers aim for reflective and flat surfaces, headlights, chrome grills (you are so f'ed if you have a billet grill), license plate.

If any of you live in a state where radar jammers are legal, GET ONE. The Blinder is by far the best out there, I have several 30 minute videos of radar enthusiasts testing radar guns on the blinders, VEIL, Lidatek's...nothing matches the Blinder. If you live in CA, they are illegal and a hefty fine will pursue if you use one. It's clear when you have one, the officer cannot lock on and gets several **** noises indicating a lack of sufficient reception depending on the gun. The blinder video on Radar Roy's website shows that they get a full JTG when a group of Radar Enthusiasts I know do lock on but only at 10 ft away when you've already slowed down. The blinder M-30 with VEIL combo is perfect, I've never seen it get clocked.

As a user has said before, most radar detectors should be placed down low for best reception.

Luckily for me I work for a large electronics retailer and give all the local PD's our employee discount, I've flown by local smokey's at 50 in a 35 with my Escort 8500 blasting KA full blast and they wave

Since you have it running to the fuse box, have you tried tapping into a source that is switched?

Maybe it has constant power for memory. I have my Valentine 1 tapped into Fuse 22 on my 05 screw, its switched.

There are two 12 volt + leads to your radio, as j080808 said there is one constant for stored settings, station memory etc.. , and one Accessory lead to turn the radio on and off, the latter will turn off and on with the Key, the constant (yellow if my memory serves me right) will be not the best idea if you want an auto shut off for your detector. Use a voltmeter to be sure but I believe red was the ACC lead, ofcourse its been about 8 months since I put in my head unit so WHO KNOWS???
