there is plenty of room for 33's even on a 4X2 and no leveling kit. I think they fill the fender wells up much nicer. as far as the leveling kit you might only need the 1.5 inch kit instead of the 2.5 inch kit I got for my truck. I do believe they come in 1.5 , 2 and 2.5 inch sizes. the best way to tell what will look best for you is to measure the ground up to the rear and the front fender and see the difference is. it is best to leave your front about 1/2 inch lower so if you have a load in the back your rear dosn't end up lower than your front which would look funny. anyhow I am not trying to push the kit just show the difference putting it in makes.

I second that! I would love to see some pics of 4x2 screws with 33's.

Also, if I putt 33's on, will I have to reprogram the truck for the different size tires?

I don't know if I want a leveling kit though. I don't mind the raked look.

Is there a clearance issue if I go with 33's without the leveling kit?

Also, what exactly would be the size for the 33's if I kept my 17" wheels? I'm used to seeing 255/75/17, not sure how the 33's break down.

Sorry for all the newb questions, I really like the truck, just the tire size bothers me. I am getting the tires flipped this week at the dealer (for free as they were supposed to do it when I bought the truck). Mine had the white letters out, and I can't stand that (Not too bad with nice tires, but the big CONTINENTAL on the side is UUUGLY). Maybe I can live with them longer with the blackwalls out.

There are some pics I saw in the 04-05 gallery. I don't have a way to post them, but they are 295/70/17s and 285/70/17s. All the ones I saw were either 4x4 or had the front level kit. Would these tires fit on my truck without the level kit and not rub?

Also, how badly will this hurt my gas mileage?

I'm assuming going from 255/65/17 to 285 or 295 I will have to reprogram my chip?

You don't have to reprogram the truck's computer, but it would be a good idea. I never reprogrammed mine. My speedometer is just off 5mph at 60mph.
The 285/70-17 is a 33x11.50-17 tire. The 295/70-17 is approximately a 34x12.00-17.

Thanks for the info. As you can tell I don't know much about tires. So, it sounds like the 285/70-17 or 33x11.50-17 is the way to go.

Anyone have any pics with these size tires without the leveling kit?

Also, any advice as to where to get the best deal on some tires and maybe wheels would be appreciated.

MJM, that is SAWEET! Do you think those tires would rub if I didn't get the leveling kit? Mine is a 4x2, so I think it's a little lower to start with.

By the way, what is the recommended leveling kit, and what does it entail to install? Is it a backyard do it yourself thing, or should I take it to a shop? How much $$ am I looking at? I'm sure I will take it to get it done since it is supposed to be like 108 degrees all week.

Good point. The 4x4's are about 2 inches taller than the 4x2's.

See...I rest my case. The 4X4 looks much better than the 4X2 with the leveling kit and 33's!

Yeah that's great for the 4x4 guys. I guess I should have spent the extra $$ on the 4x4. I will never use the 4 wheel drive though. Too late now.

Oh well I still like my 4x2, and today I had the dealer flip the tires so the white lettering is on the inside. It looks SOOOOO much better. I just couldn't get past the CONTINENTAL lettering. Anyway, I may just leave these on here for a while. I know the 285/70/17s would look much better, but If I add the big tires there are other issues that come up.

1. Leveling Kit
2. If I get the leveling kit, then next spring when I go to tow the boat I am getting, I may have the Bulldog problem when towing.
3. Then I would need some sort of airbags in the back to compensate for bulldogging.
4. Reprogramming the computer for the bigger tires.
5. And the biggest issue........$$$ We're talking the $ for tires, leveling kit, airbags, programmer etc.

Whew that sounds like a lot. I think my wife is going to kill me. I already added an extra $1500 to the loan for the 7yr/100K Bumper to Bumper warranty plus GAP insurance.

I am definately getting a Tonneau cover which will be $650 at the least plus some rubber formed floormats which will cost around $130 for front and back.

I was also wanting the Line-X bedliner, but that will have to wait as well. Our Line-X guy isn't even available for like 3 weeks. That's another $417 OTD. I can't seem to find the $20 coupon though, if anyone knows where it is please let me know.

I think I am going out to get a third job to pay for all the mods I want to do.

hotwls13: Thanks. I'm not sure if they'd rub. I've turned my wheels to full lock to see how much clearance is there, but it's still hard to say if they would rub without the spacers or not. I say go for the leveling kit. The tires will fit for sure, it's not much money, and it looks better IMO.

I have an Autospring 2" kit. About $100 on ebay. I did the install myself. About 4 hours for the first side, 1 hour for the second. On my buddie's truck, I did both sides in about 1.5 hours. Point is, figuring out how it's done is way harder than actually doing it. Do a forum search for "leveling kit", there's all kinds of info out there. Installation instructions, types, cost, pros, cons, etc...

I'm a newbie with the same issue.

It's been a week, have any of you guys tried the 33's on your 4x2 SCAB? I also am contemplating taking the plunge. I was contemplating doing the leveling kit, but I don't know if it will look funny with the smaller tires. Tell me again why I just didn't just get the 4x4?
