Prodigy brake controller Install Question

I want to install the Tekonsha Prodigy electronic brake controller and noticed that my supplied OEM harness that came with my 2004 F150 w/ tow package, is a five wire harness for the controller.....The Prodigy comes with a four wire plug-in harness for the F series trucks....My question is for anyone who has installed one of these units is ....Which harness did you use? The one supplied with the controller or the harness that Ford supplied with the truck?

Thanks in advance

Splice them together. The brown wire for the truck is for illumination and not used. Make sure to look at the tags on the truck wire as well as the wire on the prodigy. I think to correctly install it a black and red get hooked together. Blue to blue, White to white....etc. Just make sure to match up the corresponding ends to what they go to, not by color matching.

Oh, Tekonsha makes a wire harness that requires nothing other than plugging it in to the controller and the truck. It should retail for about $16.50.

I ordered the Ford wiring harness along with the controller and it plugged right in. I didn't realize I wouild have the 2 harnesses to splice together when I ordered it. Don't forget to plug in the circuit breaker (or relay or whatever it is) so the hot wire will be activated to the trailer. Mine was located with the wiring harness end and was in the left door pocket.

Yes I would buy the premade cable with connectors on each end for $10 plus. Don't hook two pigtails together unless you like to do that kind of work. this would make it plug and play, no chance for error.

In my 2004 Lariat mounting it on the knee panel would kind of make it of out of site. I would really like to in dash mount this, maybe around the ash tray where the cig lighter is. Anyone do anything like that?

I have the Prodigy and you have to use the wire that is provided with the Prodigy I believe. THe one that came with my truck did not work.
