I'm going to find it highly unlikely that anyone on these boards have or will do such a thing.

BTW, how much drop are we talking here? I believe you could get around 2" in the back by merely removing the spring blocks.

Yeah, might be good to have 4wd on a lowered truck..you can throw it in 4-lo when you're high-centered on a speed bump...

As for the orignal poster, make sure that kit will work on a 4x4 truck. When I talked to them they said it wouldn't work on mine because it was a regular cab flareside... idk...

I got all the answers you are looking for. :)

I just had the Roush lowering/handling kit installed on my 2005 supercrew FX4 4X4.

Handling has improved 10 fold.

The kit is a PITA to install though. Before you install, make sure your gas tank is as close to empty as you can get it, because you have to drop the gas tank to get the leaf spring pin out of the drivers side rear. This would also be a good time to install a new exhaust, because you will have to drop the exhaust to get the pin out of the passenger side rear.

I didn't take pictures of the new springs compared to the FX4 springs, but there is a huge difference. You will lose some towing and payload with the lowering kit, but probably not enough to make a big difference for every day hauling, and you can always install some bags like I plan to do to help out the load. The only other part that is replaced in the rear are the shocks. This lowers the rear down 3".

As for the front, new coils replace the old, as well as new shocks. Install is a lot easier on the front if you know what you are doing. I do not, so I had somebody do it for me. The Roush kit also comes with a new swaybar for the front, and I do not know the difficulty of install on that, but I replaced the sway bar on my sport trac and it was a breeze. The new coils lower the front down 2".

Here is a before and after picture of my truck. I don't have a direct side shot of the truck with the Roush suspension package installed yet, so these will have to do.

Ignore the typical ignorance of lowering a 4X4, it can be done with no problems. I have 4 wheel drive trucks since I live in Alaska. It is used to go up icy hills, slick intersections and through snow. With both of my lowered 4X4's I have not gotten high centered, and I still go through the snow just the same.

I would never lower a 4X4. if you might as well buy a car. I seen a car the other day that was high centered on the center median all 4 wheels off the ground. I think it hit the median and bounced up on it and was stuck good. I know if I had accedentally hit that median and bounced up on it I could have drove right over it and kept on goin. a lowered truck is just like a car with more trunk space. by the way 05RoushMarkLT besides the tires and lowering the rest of your truck looks real nice.

lower a 4x4?just dosnt make much since to me.by looking at the red truck above, you can hardly tell a difference in those pictures.dosnt seem logical to pay $4-$5k more for a truck thats 4x4 to make it look 4x2??just my 2 cents, but who cares, its your truck, good luck with it.

If you have a good reason to have a 4x4 in your area but want the truck lowered, then it's a good idea. 05RoushMarkLT lives where he will encounter snow and ice on his roads where having 4x4 would be a benefit. My uncle had to sell his 4x2 truck when he moved because it just didn't work well on ice. A lowered 4x4 probably would have worked for him.

But, I feel the same way about people who lift their trucks and never use the 4x4 feature. I have a few friends who have trucks like this yet they have never touched anything but pavement.

On these trucks can can't leave the 4x4 option on when you're on the road though? An AWD lowered truck would be sweet IMHO.

yeah,i suppose that true,im in florida,so snow never comes to mind.lived here all my life, lol.when it comes to lowered,in my mind, its not really low till the tires tuck in,and if you cant get it to do that,to me its not worth it to do it.i bought a 4x2 and raised the front and put bigger tires on it,to give it a 4x4 look,so who am i to judge, lol.i thought about lowering it,but never relly found a good looking lowered 04-05.

Let me break it down on why I lowered my 4X4.

1st, I don't plan to take it off road that often. When I do, I will take the truck within its limits.

2nd, I need the 4 wheel drive. I've driven on slick roads and through snow for 14 years now, and know what I need to make it through. Losing 2-3" of ground clearance will not keep me from getting to the store or get the kids to school. It still has more ground clearance than a subaru forester or other all wheel drive cars, would you say cars shouldn't be available in 4wd or AWD because of their lack of ground clearance?

3rd, I have a 4 year old and a pregnant wife. Lowering the truck helps them get in and out.

4th, lowering the truck has greatly improved the handling. I'm currently living in Vegas, and the truck handles great on freeways, on and off ramps, in traffic and when I feel like getting on it and playing a little.

5th, It looks better. I like customizing my trucks to make them unique, and that is what I'm doing with this one. Lowering it down a little got rid of that gap in the rear wheel well, and you can't see it very well, but reduced the gap in the front wheel well too. If I had a side picture after it was lowered you could reference that better.
