2004-05 Non DVD Prep Package Owners!! There is light!!

Hello. First I must say that everyone that told me I cannot put the overhead dvd in a supercab, well I say nanabooboo. I did it. Second, dont let the hype fool you if you dont have the prep package. There is a harness that you can order from ford to make this work. Some supercrews have the other end of the plug to make this a plug and play type install. Some do not, and all of your supercabs are not going to have the plugs. After finding the pinouts, and runnin some tests, I did get the unit to correspond with the radio, so my can bus tie ins are working properly. The only thing I have not figured out is for sound through the radio, but I am not too worried about that. I dont want to listen to Barney while I am driving down the highway. I will do the complete install tomorrow as I ran out of daylight. I will try and get some pictures but it can be done. I will try and get the part numbers for the harnesses. There is also 4 DVD units total. The right one will depend on your build date. I did install one that was an early dvd unit into an 05 and the 2 would not communicate, therefore would not work. I will say that the audiophile radio is a must for this install. If you do not have that, then I dont think you are going to make this happen. Have a great night, and give me a day or two to update this. I have alot going on this weekend!!

How about a little more info on this harness your talkin about, like exactly what its for does it have your power source in it and such. I have a overhead audiobahn system that I took out of my last truck and I'm thinking about trying to install it in my new one. I'm a little iffy though because I have a sunroof now.

as for getting sound through the car speakers, you might be able to use an fm transmitter. you would have to put the radio on a certain channel

BTW, I am using the overhead rail DVD system, like what comes from the factory. I found a part # for the harness that goes from the c pillar to the dvd unit. I then found out that there is 2 harnesses. One from the radio to the c pillar, and then one from the c pillar to the player. The one from the radio to the c pillar cannot be ordered and is only going to be found in Supercrews. You also must have the audiophile radio for the player to communicate with the dvd unit. Now, Since my truck is a supercab, the harness is not there. So, I ordered the one harness, figured out the pinouts of the two plugs, and started playing. I got the player to chat with the radio on the can bus, yeah!! I got power and ground to work, and got the unit to illuminate. Like I said, there is 26 wires on this plug, soo I still have to figure out how to make the audio work. But for now the player is hardwired with an inline fuse, grounded independantly, and wired directly into the can bus setup. You can watch movies and hear them on the headphones, and listen to the radio at the same time. It really wasnt to hard to do. I had it installed in a little under 2 hours time.
