AF1/Stage 2 installed and Holy Crap! (Easy RP)
OK, (RP don't ban me for swearing "sort of", Is Holy crap bad because I want to say Holy $h!t) I have been waiting a long time to post this thread. I like to keep thinks simple and I have kept my mouth shut on the Troyer Stage 2 kit thus far because it wasn't complete.
I finally have the stage two complete, I just recieved the AF1 today and installed it in less than 30 minutes. (this is because when I got home I had to go #2 really bad, I read the installation manual for the entire time {the poop took 20 minutes}, so basically I read the AF1 installation manual and tech notes 10 times because I read real slow). I know TMI…..
Anyhow I have a 2004 4x4 Lariat Screw (early build, 9/2003) and I understand some people where getting the lovely CEL with the AF1. I have read all the posts and have followed JP’s track of not resetting anything. So far, so good, although I only have 50 miles on it so far. Only time and the friggin computer will tell for sure…
I noticed three things so far:
1. It makes a heck of a lot of noise when you go WOT. (Mostly the AF1)
2. It makes the truck go faster quicker. (Mostly the TP Custom Tunes)
3. It’s not so loud cruising (under 70mph)
3.5 I think the mileage may have improved but I need a lot more drive time…..
3.6 I am totally amazed, way to easily…. (This happens when your last vehicle was a 96 Mercury Sable LS "Southwest Edition")
3.7 I swear the AF1 sucked the hood down when I first took it out, I know something moved in the front not sure what yet....
From an installation perspective (I was a motorcycle mechanic 20 years ago) the E-Fans where the hardest or at least the most time consuming, (so I paid some one else to do them). I could have installed them myself but I did not really have the time or more importantly the proper tools.
So to make a long story even longer, so far I have been very impressed with the TP Stage 2 kit. I purchased the kit in January but have been waiting for the AF1. Since everything is complete, I can tell you it is the best truck I have ever owned. (OK, the truth is, this may be the 1st truck I ever owned unless you want to consider the 1969 Jeep Commando that I had for 2 weeks back in 76 and the crank broke while starting it in 20 degree weather in PA) However, it sure goes faster and rides nicer than the Jeep.
The Stage 2 kit has really made this truck better. I need more time with everything installed. I also need to make sure I don’t start throwing a CEL, as it is my biggest concern at this point.
Before I give it a two thumbs up I need to give it more time but wanted everyone to know that so far so good. (So 1 thumb and a rocker so far)

Crash...GREAT news!! Sounds as if you are on you way to a more enjoyable ride!! I have a 3 week (new) '05 Screw and have been doing mostly "visual" mods to date - but have installed the Magnaflow SIDO (rear bumper) exhaust. I also have the AF1 on order and am wondering what else is in the Troyer stage II Tune - is it the SC Tuner and the electric fans? How about UD pullies?
thanks and please keep us informed as you get more miles on the Stage II package!!

That’s great news Crash!
My first impression of the Airforce-1 was WOW too.
I wouldn’t worry about setting a CEL because it most likely won’t happen. My build date is early too, 9-03, and I never set a code. In fact, recently I disconnected my battery for 20 minutes or so to reset the PCM because my lackadaisical driving habits of late have my adaptive strategy thinking I’m 95 years old and blind. Anyway, after resetting the PCM, the truck feels fresh again, and no CEL

Sure does wake things up doesn't it! Congrats on getting it all done!
A little work on my AF1 made it sooOO much quieter! AF1 Tune-Up!
I'm an early (same) build ... no CEL and have been through a recent power reset. I've run 5 different tunes plus stock still all ok.

Hey Crash,
How do you like your Magnaflow SIDO? I'm thinking about doing the same thing. Just a little worried about cabin noise when going down the highway at 70+ mph. Does the noise leak into the cabin? Thanks man, and congrats on the Stage 2!

Stage II = AF1 intake, Magnaflow exhaust, UD Pullies, Xcalibrator with 3 custom tunes, and E-Fans. You can find it here: Stage 2 kit for 2004 and 2005 5.4L F150's
I also already had the Magnaflow SIDO Catback so you just need the rest. Mike will take care of ya!!!!
Ty,
I decided before installing it to do a search in this Forum and found your post. I obviously didn't have a pipe flaring tool like you used but you where right about the rubber intake. I was pretty disapointed with the finish of the rubber elbow as well, so I tried the soldering iron after trying a razor blade 1st. The soldering iron worked real well but requires some skill as you really need to keep it moving or you will create dents. After getting everything cleaned up I used some sandpaper to make it very smooth. Thanks for all the tips!!! I am going to talk to my Muffler shop to see if the tech can do the same flare you did. (they owe me one anyway)
F150Duke,
I originally had the FlowMaster Super 40 put on the truck when I purchaed it from the dealership (dealer installed). It had a serious cabin drone which really doesn't bother me but does bother the wife. Anyway I had some vibration issues with it and the dealership replaced it with the Magnaflow SIDO catback. I highly recommend it!!! Especially if you want to eliminate cabin drone and are looking for a performance exhaust system. It has made a huge difference from the Flowmaster.
Driving to work today was a blast!!! Gas milage has definately improved even more with just the AF1. The low end power is what I think is making the difference. You just do not have to press the gas pedal that hard anymore. So far the kit has gained me roughly about 3MPG in all driving conditions, although Dallas is pretty flat. (I didn't buy it for MPG, it is just a side effect of the performance upgrade) It just pulls like a tractor. But when you go WOT, WOW!!! Anyone withhin 100 yards can hear it take off. I may reflash the PCM to have it go through the adaptive strategy again, after I have given it about 500 miles or so to get the edge back.
So far it is a "totally recommended" if you want to wake up your truck.
