Upgrading brakes?
Upgrading brakes?
Anybody know of a good brake upgrade for our trucks? also how much would it cost? I was looking into brembo's or baer brakes something along those lines. If anybody knows anything let me know.
I've been checking out some brakes from SSBC and everyone I've talked to that has upgraded absouletely loves them. Kinda on the expensive side but I think well worth the upgrade. I'm saving up to get them

Ive looked at rotor pros, who sell cross drilled and slotted rotors for the f150's. They are not nearly as expensive as brembo and baer but are an upgrade nontheless. I am trying to find somebody who has actually bought them so that i can get some feedback. They are around $400 for four rotors powdercoated in color of choice and shipped to anywhere in continental US. :santa:
How much of an improvement do you think the upgraded calipers will make? In the future, do you need to use a particular brand of brake pad? I have to admit the stock brakes definately leave something to be desired, especially when you drive other cars such as a Honda Accord. It is probably not realistic to expect it to stop as well as that particular car but any improvement is welcome.
Another idea, could you use a caliper from a heavier duty ford truck? Perhaps this would be cheaper and still have all the benefits.

damn 895 for just calipers... still gotta do rotors too!!

when I upgraded the brakes on my 02 ranger I went with powerslot rotors and hawk superduty pads. The pads worked great, but were so loud you hated to even step on the brakes. Hawk sent me performance duty pads to try but stopped worse than stock pads. My third set of pads were akabonos and worked better than stock but not as good as the superdutys but no noise. I would have to say that pads make a difference but I would think better calipers would make more. As for the rotors I had a hard year and a half on them and they showed no sign of warping and still looked good!! I would say upgrading the rotors will mostly help the longevity of them and have much more resistance to warping cause of the slots etc.
