Leather Seat Quality

Hi,

I'm looking at getting either a new FX4 or Lariat. Either way, I'm looking at getting the leather seats, simply due to the wear factor and the ease of maintaining them compared to cloth. But, I haven't been able to confirm if the rear seats are just a "leather type" fabric like most other manufacturers? If they are some sort of phony leather in the back, are they just as durable and easy to maintain?

Look forward to any info others might have or know first hand.

Thanks

Well at least I'll save money on conditioner for my leather. And to answer the original poster, mine seem to be holding up just fine, and I have a rather large husky that crawls in the back cab of my truck.

The only leather you get in the FX4, are the front seating surfaces only. The sides, back and headrest are vinyl. Take your fingers and rub and grip around on the headrest, then do the same to the area under the headrest. The vinyl headrest is grippy feeling, while the leather is not. Its easy to tell where the leather is.

I do believe that it depends on the trim package you get. I know that the FX4, Lariat and King Ranch are the only ones to offer leather. The others don't even have the option.
When I got mine, it stated "leather trimed captains chairs"...and that's what I got. Here's how I understand the FX4 package. The outside perimeter of the chairs are trimed in leather. The inside portion that you sit on is a harder vinyl material supposedly meant for the active outdoor person in mind. (For example...you can sit on the seats with a wet bathing suite and the vinyl will wipe off easily.) The rest of the chairs and the back seat are a different vinyl material that looks and feels like leather. No big deal to me...it looks great.
Now the Lariat and King Ranch could be all leather...I don't know. The book states they are leather trimmed front seats as well though.
I would recommend just going to the dealer and looking at both in person and compare the two. That's the only way your going to get a feel for what you want...so to speak.

The KR is all leather... if you see brown and it's not on a door panel or on the dash, it's cow. Moo.

King ranch rear seat is all leather. It is the only exception.

Like my post above shows, the FX4 and Lariat SuperCrew rear seat only has those small patches of real leather. The entire SuperCab rear seat is vinyl.

The Front seats of the FX4 and Lariat are leather on the entire upper surface only, there is not a vinyl insert in the center of the FX4 front seat, it is an embossed pattern leather. I know this because i used to do all the interion trim/seat cover work at the dealership i worked for.
