Hey KT... is LEER still making the interior for our trucks? I know that 'Garden State Tannery' is the supplier on the KR leather but, at last check, LEER was assembling them as a Tier I. Still correct?

I'm pretty sure JCI makes our seats.

As for the 'quality' of the leather, it's not stellar but it's not crap either. Regular cleaning and conditioning is required to keep it looking like new. After more than a year & 25K my seats look pretty darn good. Not like new, but still darn good. Love that Lexol!

one thing to remember about this automotive leather (except for the king ranch) is that it has so much top coat on it, that hardly any of the conditioner actually gets through into the leather. Its almost like it's been basecoat, clearcoated, haha.

Not so true there kidtriton...

The clearcoat that is on the seats is porus and does allow for conditioning agents to permeate the surface (and viceversa). This is an item that an excutive with LEER Corporation and I discussed on a flight from Detroit to Louisville a couple of years ago as this was my assumption as well before that flight. He was coming down to do some work with the LEER plant in Lville that handles the interiors for the Explorer and Sport Trac...

Ok, so it is more porous than i thought, but it is still quite 'painted'. Thats what sucks as far as when someone rubs through the topcoat getting in and out. If it was more of a natural finish, the wear would look a lot better.

This is why I ordered my leather seats aftermarket. 100% leather on all front facing surfaces and headrests. The only vinal is the back of the seats.

Not to beat a dead horse, errr, cow, but my "Leather Trimmed" captains chairs are as descibed above, leather only on the edges of the seating surface. All else is vinyl.

I do have to say though, the vinyl in the back, and everywhere else is pretty darn good. I'd say it is as durable and good looking as the small amount of leather in the front.

This is the FX-4, the Lariat is different I'm sure. They must of assumed we were going to get them dirty. I got three kids and an Australian Shepherd, believe me, they were right!

Yep. You are correct.

It's there for protection more than anything. Leather stains if you look at it cross-eyed and this is the industry's solution...

WOW.....awesome looking interior.....making me think about upgrading my Lariat leather....did you get the leather in a kit already for installlation or is this from scratch? VERY Nice - how much did that cost you - if you don't mind sharing

Like my post above shows, the FX4 and Lariat SuperCrew rear seat only has those small patches of real leather. The entire SuperCab rear seat is vinyl.

The Front seats of the FX4 and Lariat are leather on the entire upper surface only, there is not a vinyl insert in the center of the FX4 front seat, it is an embossed pattern leather. I know this because i used to do all the interion trim/seat cover work at the dealership i worked for.
Kidtriton....probably jumping in here late - but my rear seat is entirely "pleather" (vinyl) - I have the '05 SCREW Lariat, the window sticker even says "Leather trimmed Captians Chairs" for the astounding bargain price of $595.00. The only standard leather on the Lariat is the steering wheel and as far as I can tell you can't even get leather in the rear on any Lariat - KR is the only one.

Look again real close at those patches that i outlined in red, press your fingernail into that area, and then the other areas and see if you can't tell a difference. (Unless ford has stepped down again and done away with it) In 00, when the first 01 supercrews came out, the whole seating suface of the rear seat was real, then for 02, it became just the outer and middle seat area, and then in 04, it jus became the outer 2 seat areas. So it wouldnt suprise me too much if 05 lost all the real leather in the rear seat, but i havent studied it since i am not affiliated with ford anymore.

I want to do a two tone seating in my truck but I don't know what color would really go with the Beige seats, maybe a brown?

I got mine from www.classicsofttrim.com. They only handle dealers, though. I work for a Saturn dealer.

I had special ordered the leather. They removed the cloth, put in heated seats (front only) and then did the leather. You can perf it or not and use one or two of about 60 color swatches. You can use different colored stiching also.

I have the red "FX4" embroidered and silver "OFF ROAD". I will be swapping out my cluster to become stainless and red to match the rest of the truck inside. I ordered the Lincoln LT black leather shifter and will install that once I get it also.

I am getting the top photo. This will match the embroidery.

Cost me about $900 (MY cost) for leather with a three year warranty.
