All I know is with any smaller brakes on your rig it'd be pretty scary trying to stop it, especially with bigger tires if you are planning on them.

You could just be like me and patiently await for ProComp or another manufacturer to get off of their a$$ and make the black steels available for our trucks. I know it doesn't allow you to run 15's but if you could settle for steels in 17" you're halfway there.

Don't do it. "Upgrading" to smaller brakes is just like cutting off 3" from your johnson.

Size really doesn't matter...

...or so they say.

thumper is correct. Our trucks are pretty heavy. Too small......and no stop.

I too want black wheels on me ride but cannot find the 6-135mm/hubcentric secret sammy squirrell rims anywhere. It makes me sad.

Here we go again, Just because you don't happen to agree with the question or the idea doesn't give everyone the right to take the guy apart piece by piece. Sometimes I'm amazed at the coldhearted comments I read here now and then. If someone said 20" rims suck they would get blasted also, right. I don't think this site is as open to peoples ideas as it once was.

the poster was comparing us to a Mustang board. That somehow they were more supportive than us. You are reading my response to that.

The poster (and yourself) also neglected to mention that in fact there was suppostive posts that told him what he needed to do (change the axles). He was too busy being defensive and comparing us to Mustang owners to read what was posted.

The responses here were also clear in the safety factor in what he wanted to do. That does not make us unsupportive. Quite the opposite in that the guys here are looking out for him. What would you expect us to say if he wanted to run around with only 4 lugnuts on the rim because it looked nicer? Want us to kiss his butt and say "great idea, post pics"?

People post ugly mods all the time and get tons of butt kissing. I think we are quite supportive here.

Sorry but IMO putting 15" rims on a 04-05 F150 is just plain scary. To reduce effective braking power is putting himself as well as others at serious risk and I would hope that whoever is the inspector for him would lock the truck up. Now if he were to have a degree in automotive engineering it would be different. I hope if he ever gets 15' wheels on that truck that he's not driving around here. I've got kids who drive and don't try to reduce safety for appearences sake.

Gotta agree. Customizing is a personal preference, and if someone wants to drop down to 15s, that their desire. It's not too helpful for someone here to be ugly about it and run newer members off with their flame throwers-a-blazing. When the people that pay and support this website, such as Troyer, Moss Motors, etc... see some clown being ugly and telling others not to let the door hit them on the way out, they start thinking twice about who they support.

Constructive criticism is one thing. Being a jerk is another. You don't have to agree with the mod, but why be a raging bunghole about it?

Sorry RedRum05.

Edit - By the way folks, a lift and oversize meats reduce braking effectiveness too, yet I don't recall the butt chewing whining about those mods.

and just how do you respond to someone who says "I'm leaving for another forum because they're better than you guys"?

As far as the negative responses... they were earned. It is a dumb idea to comprimise safety in favor of "a look"

1.) I look for the reason he feels that way, and try to figure out a way to help the guy. To tell him he's stupid, or the like, is not constructive. The fact is that many people here do mods that some like and some don't, but when someone asks for help, why be an *** to the guy? I'm not talking about giving someone a hard time done in a humorous, or attempted humorous way. I'm talking about comments like the "door hitting you" crap.

2.) Negative responses are one thing, and constructive criticism is another. Just like the guy said, he's been on other sites where people gave him straight answers. While a couple people here did that for him, some just gave him unsolicited opinions.

I wouldn't worry about it now. He's probably not coming back, and life goes on. It just gets old watching the newby's getting their butts handed to them just for asking questions. I thought the intent of this board was to help people, not badger them. General Discussion is for the badgering.

1969mach, I agree

Redrum can do whatever the hell he wants with HIS truck!

15"s do have advantages

1. More side wall = smoother ride
2. More tire sizes to choose from
3. Tires are less expensive
4. Better off-road. (never seen a bogger or rock crawler w/ dubs)

It is redrums call, so don't hate
If 15's fit I would have them on my truck too!

My 65 Mustang doesn't even have 15s..

Honestly, do whatever you want but I don't think your going to be able to do it without it consisting of a ton of work and IMO it won't be worth it but if your set on it than go for it.
