Need your advise on aux lights.

I'm looking at a adding some offroad lights to my Westin Grill Guard and a couple in the back to aid in backing up. Any input/adivise would be appreciated. I'm currently looking at Hella 400's, ProComp 8" 130watts and the ultimate LightForce 240 Blitz. I would like to run two pair up front providing they fit and some type of light in the rear(undecided).

Anyone have any experience with these lights and will the stock electrical system handle the additional draw. My only power mods are XM commander and the foglight mod. Say I run every light in the house, will this cause any problems?

Thanks, Jerry

Pickupsman,

Thanks for posting, have you had any problem with your electrical system and how often do you run all of your lights. I'm just getting my truck ready for hunting season so they probably won't be getting the same workout yours get on the farm. Also, did you have to drill out your own holes for mounting or did you use the factory pre-drilled ones? One more thing, any thought of running some in the back, just curious which ones you would be considering.

Thanks

i have mine setup so they all come on with the high beam lights, i use them all the time, and so far no problems. the two factory holes in the brush guard will not work, i had to measure it out and drill 4 new ones. as far as the lights on the back, when i changed tail lights it made the back up lights a lot brighter.

Where do you tap into the high beam wire? What color is it?

400 watts of light runs about 30 amps or so of power, if my maths is right.
Might not want to run all the lights and the AC at idle for long...not sure what the alternator amperage at idle is...

As far as the backup lights...on my Jeep I have cheap round driving lights, you get them in a bin for $6-12 each...also called tractor or implement lights. They're nice because you mount them up under the bed and point them at the ground. Lots of light, and no worries about them being damaged...cheap. I know a lot of guys who run several along the undercarriage of their Jeeps for trail lighting.
