Oh man I sure wish I could shave off the tailgate emblems like that. It looks so clean and beautiful. I hate the huge *** eblems on the tailgate. I know it's a Ford, do the astonauts on the space station need to see that it's a Ford too?

I'm thinking the shaved look with remote entry would look great on all the doors. Very nice and clean on the tailgate.

thanks guys, i like the handles more and more every time i get into the truck. its also nice to be the different truck in a town full of fords (as if the screaming yellow doesnt do it already). i thought about getting the LT handle for the tailgate, but i wasnt too sure about it. the side handles help the chrome from the emblems flow through, if i had chrome bumpers i would have definitely gotten it. next mod is to fix the scratch i got from a chevy lovin tree while i was four wheeling in the snow.

your local stealership can get them, but it might be cheaper for you to go through fpn. i got mine at wholesale price since i work in a body shop.

I think it looks pretty good man!

Couple of questions if you don't mind...

You mention that you work in a body shop (which is why I'm going to ask this next question), did you disassemble the handle to paint the bucket of the assembly?

Also, what did you do to promote adhesion with the yellow paint over the plastic chrome handle?

Thanks man!

Why not, there is only a pin that needs to be punched out

I thought I remembered DZ mentioning that when he went through his handle painting dilema... I thought though that he said it was a booger to remove and he had worries about reassembly too. ??

the only one i wouldnt touch would be the tailgate handle unless you can get the "flattened" part out of the pin

i dissassembled the door handles, it was fairly easy, but, i did break one of the back panels and had to take one off of my old handle, i pryed a little too hard.. i tried getting the tailgate handle apart and just couldnt get the pin through all the way, and i didnt want to break it(another reason i didnt use a LT handle on it) i used the stock tailgate handle, sanded a little with 180 grit, used two coats of DuPont adhesion promoter(dont know what # it is), 2 coats of primer, sanded with 220 grit, 1 more coat of primer, wet sanded with 400 grit then shot it with dupont basecoat/clearcoat.

ok RP, now i see why you are asking, after reading your thread. i dont know about prepping the chrome for paint, you may be able to sand it and just use adhesion promoter. i have never seen paint over chrome so i couldnt tell you how well it will last. you could always paint the stock handles the same way i did my tailgate, but again, it might not last long. i decided to go for it on my tailgate because it doesnt get used much, and is not subject to chipping. from what i have seen, textured plastic chips very easy when painted over, regardless of what you do to prep it. may i ask, why dont you just leave the chrome on the LT handles? whatever you do, good luck. feel free to ask more ??s

looking great!!! I have my two front LT handles all sanded and ready for paint... waiting for my two rear door handles and tailgate handles, should be here tomorrow... then they will be getting a nice coating of aspen green!!! I really like how you painted teh tailgate chrome handle body color as well.. think I am going to do that. In the begining I was going to paint the chrome handles body color as well but the more i thought about it, i think the chrome handles will complement my chrome wheels nice
