Monroe Reflex...anybody float me a loan???

dang, I dunno. Learned that the Monroe Reflex front and rear are now available for the '04 2wd. Call my local Firestone whom I have dealt with for years. I send a lot of business, they do great work and they cut me some deals.
Anyway the Reflex are available for the rears but not yet for the front so I figure I'll wait a bit. Oh, BTW, how much are they?....

...$169 EACH for the front and $69 EACH for the rears!!!
I had him double check, as they are not in stock yet, and this is what he was quoted again.

I'll look around some more, but can this be anywhere near the right price?

I paid $149.58 plus tax for ALL FOUR shocks from a local parts house. Granted, those were for my '02, but prices will not quadruple for a different size. Your price must be the installed price, and he's making a killing on the labor. That price isn't even in the ballpark.
Sears has advertised them at $75 each, buy 3 get one free, installation included ($225 for all four installed).

And yes, that is for the Monroe Reflex and not one of their lesser shocks.

thanks Rocky, but that Firestoner price did NOT include the $220 labor for install. I will check again later cuz I am much more guessing that the price should actually be $169 for the fronts and $69 for the rears.
BTW, my local Sears claims they can't yet pull up the Reflex part # for the 04's yet.

According to the Monroe website

www.monroe.com

The following are the Part #'s for the 04 F-150. I just looked these up yesterday actually. I too was looking to see if they had them yet.

Front = 931362
Rear = 911261

The only place I've found them online so far is the Advance Auto Parts website $111.99 for the Fronts and 56.99 for the rears.

If that's the real going price the Bilsteins are still the better deal form eshocks.

If anyone finds them for less let us know.......

Those prices gotta be per pair. Monroe hasn't doubled/ quadrupled their prices in the last 7 months. Obviously the front shocks are way different on the 04-05 models. Are they more like a McPherson strut?

dont forget that the fronts are actually struts now, and the spring mounting plate makes them more expensive to produce, and the cost flows downhill....

Just got back from my Firstoner local store....CONFIRMED for the $169 and $69 EACH, front and rears respectively. I understand that the front is basically a strut, but WOW.
So at the Firestoner I would come out to about $650 installed. I think I'm gonna have to claim "no mas" at this time.

And according to the Monroe website the Reflex is all that's available for the new body style. No Sensa-Tracs......

Try Advance Auto Parts or your other local parts places. I'm telling ya, your Firestone guy isn't treating you fair.

And the Reflex are better than the Sensa-Trac.

Try shockwarehouse.com. Skip the Monroes and just go Bilstein.

Had Rancho RSX and Edelbrock IAS (both self adjusting) on previous trucks, neither had an application for the new model Ford when I was ready to purchase. Went with the Bilstein's and love them. A little harsher at really low speeds but way better at highway speed. Body roll in turns is what I most wanted to address with new shocks and the Bilstein's did that.

thanks for all the advice guys!!!

still thinking, but NO DOUBT I am finding the Monroe Reflex to be going for $150+ for each front and $70+ for each rear.

I kinda figure that since I know I will not tackle the front spring compression that there is no real point for me to install the rears. The savings just wouldn't be worth it to me. So given that, the very best I have found so far is Discount Tire in Whittier, CA. They will install all 4 for $550 out the door.

But they are the 3rd place that told me that there is an extreme premium due to short supply on these shock for the latest vehicles, and that the price would be expected to drop over time. Oh yeah, BTW, the Disc Tire price included a buy-3-get-1-free deal. So there is a savings of about $80, since it would be one of the rears being free.

Man, for THAT kinda price I would expect my truck to rail like a Lambo in the corners, allow me to cut diamonds while driving over rough roads like the old Lincolns AND automatically squat on frame like a Citroen when I park.

I have had Bilsteins and I LOVED them, but that was with a suspension geared more towards the off road. This is my first comfy-type street truck and I am a little leary. Just as bleedblue says, I'd like to minimize the transmission of the little-bits up into me (so to speak).

I have also had Edelbrock IAS Performers and found them to be a nice go-between. But again, they are not yet available. I am getting the distinct impression that I may simply need to cool my jets for a few months or so. By then the stocks will have 25k-30k on them and this will be more of a pressing need.

Thanks again
