4.6 Exhaust duals or Y?????????

With the 4.6 is it best to keep the Y pipe or run a true dual exhaust? I once purchased a Gibson exhaust kit for my 2003 - F150, and I didn't like it! I did not like the fact that I had to keep my spare tire in the bed. I ended up removing the Gibson system as a result. I have since vowed never to get an aftermarket "mail" exhaust system.

My plans are to go and get a custom exhaust done up at a muffler shop. I have also vowed to enter the muffler shop with the tips and muffler of my choosing in hand. I wanted some different looking tips and had spent a good amount of time locating them. I have selected some polished, stainless steel, oval, slashed tips. Check em out here is a link: http://stainlesssteelmufflers.com/St...sSteelTips.htm If you check out the link don't forget to turn your computer's speakers on!!!

The stock exhaust is 2-1/2" correct? So the tips I selected should be fine but I'm not sure if I should go with the 15" or 18" tips? Based upon my initial question of going with duals or staying with a Y, I would then decide which muffler or mufflers to select. I don't want the "drone" in the cab and don't want any lowend loss in power. I do want to hear a rumble at idle though!!! Any suggestions?

maybe you should do a little more research on exhaust, if you dont want to loose the low end you need a H, there should be no such thing as duals with out a X or H

magnaflow makes a nice 18 inch muffler with a x built into the muffler dual in dual out so you can run the dual exaust through one muffler and still have the x. magnaflow is not 2 loud and you can hear it a little at idle and you can hear it clearly if your windows are rolled down. there is so mutch sound proofing they put into these trucks you don't here alot of outside stuff inside the cab. especially if you got the radio on. I can get the model number for that muffler if you are interested in it.

My muffler man recomended I stick with the single exhaust unless I were making a lot of modifications to the engine, to maintain torque. I have a single dumped Flow right now, but if I get headers than I'll run true duals for the sound alone!
