what needs to be done if i get a floor shifter cluter vs my colum shift?
will the miles on my truck go onto the new cluster?
where can i find a fx-4 cluster?
i have a 2005 xlt and im wanting the fx-4 cluster.

In order,
Not sure what the floor shift thing has to do with it?
If you buy the FX4 cluster from the dealer (300+bucks) you give them your mileage and the factory that makes the cluster programs it in, and then it is shipped.
A good vendor can program the miles. The dealership can not.
E-bay. There is one or two Good vendors. They tell you in your adds that they will program it to your specs.
You still need to take it to the dealer and pay 60-90 bucks to have it matched to your truck. Works without this , but the dome light, headlight chime, etc. will no know you've opened the door.
Finally does your truck already have a tach? Not much reason to change if you do. But if you have a tach you can then sell your cluster for most of your money back...

Swapping it is easy, or they will charge usually 75-85 to put it in. Then they have to program the PCM to allow it to recognize the new unit. It only takes a few minutes, but if they have never changed a cluster, or added cruise, etc. to a 04-05 they may not know how. Ford has a service hotline that can explain it to them. Depends on the Ford shop, and if they are willing to do anything not standard. I contacted three shops that would not do it, didn't care to learn something new, and two that had done it several times. A third hadn't but was willing to learn. That one had the best price.
Best of luck

I paid 250 for my fx4 cluster off ebay. Of course it was a fx4 to fx4 swap for me. I didnt have to do a thing but plug it in and everything works, unlike the stx to fx4 swap. Mileage is kept in the cluster, and like one of the posters said, theres a couple of guys that can set it, so you dont need ford too. I did a 04 to 05 swap just cause the lcd numbers(mileage/compass/temp) are bolder characters in the 05 ones. It drove me crazy not being able to see them good on the 04 cluster, even with glasses on. I still have my 04 fx4 lying around here, and may put it up for sale on ebay for 250 soon.
