Thoughts on painting dash parts?

I am very seriously considering painting my dark grey dash pieces black with clear coat like the Harley interior pictured below. Is this a bad idea considering the heat and blazing hot summers here in Florida? I really like the look. Is there a special plastic dash type of primer and paint that will not easily scratch or fade?

To get that finish I think you'd have to fiberglass it, then paint it.

(not as hard as it sounds)

The center radio bezel is carbon fiber but not the dash pieces. I think it looks killer. I could never bring myself to do it but I think its a great idea and would look awesome!

yeah, you're talking about the strips with the vents in them...

Fiberglass resin + lots of sanding + a good paint job.

you also talking about ripping the enitre dash out, those little strips are what everything else bolts and connects to

not carbon fiber

the radio bezel actually has a bunch of Harley logos but from a distance it looks like carbon.

I'd be interested to see what the parts would cost to do a complete install like on the Harley, rather than painting them. Not a mod I'm interested in, but I'd still like to know how much $$$ it would take, and how many hours as well.

dash paint

that's what I figured Asinatra but since I'm adding gauges and the FX4 cluster I figure that almost all the dash is going to be apart anyway with the exception of the air bag. It's a good time to either do it or not. It sounds as if it would be more cost effective to just buy the Ford parts in that color.

Thanks for your opinions guys

Tell you what Scott 7065, you work out all the kinks on your truck ... and then come do mine for me! As posted before, I really wish I could have those mid-gray sections (with the vents) on the dash and doors in black ... even the same basic radio bezel black. Good luck and keep us posted.

you DONT understand, to remove that dash piece you have to remove EVERYTHING, all the electrical connectors that run into the cab, e-brake, hood pull, disconnect the SRS system; the truck will be out of commision, all those little pieces arent seperate, they are one unit.

You just squished my dreams asinatra.......damn you man...

I have always wanted to paint all of the gey to match the exterior of my truck. It would look killer custom and beat any dash kit out there. I did not, however, know all of the details about taking them out.

Asinatra, can you get all of the midle pieces out with out vehicle disasembly?

And if that is the final version of the Harley F150, it is amazing looking, Why Lincoln didn't go that route I will never understand.
