12's will produce a deeper bass. 10's will def. still be deep, especially a truck as ours. 12's rebound a bit slower than 10's ie really quick successive bass hits should sound better on 10's than 12's... go to an audio place and test speakers out to see what size you're lookin for...

 

Where would the sub go in a regular cab???

I am interested in getting new speakers and a sub, too, but being a n00b in the audio department, am in need of someone to hold my hand

 

On my regular cab, I just stuffed an 8 inch in a wooden box behind the passenger seat. Fits fine, and you can recline the seat.The 50 buck solution.

I use a tiny amp, and just run the bass on the amp. My Kenwood puts out 240 watts for the four speakers. Gives me 340 watts in a small truck cab.


An 8 inch can fill a reg cab with sound better than a 10 inch can fill a Supercab, or a 12 inch in a Screw. Do the math.

There would be deeper notes to the 12 inch, but I have two 15 inchers in my house in one room, and a single twelve in another, and guess what, the human ear doesn't hear as low as even the single twelve can go.
True if you slam 600-1500 watts to it, you can feel it in your chest cavity, but no thanks, I am just trying to hear music, not damage soft tissue.

Of course you may want to rattle your windows, so look into a Bazooka or something like that. They fit fine in the reg cab. I have seen two of them, sideways, stacked in a Reg cab.

I wish I had the money for a supercrewsound.com box with dual Kicker L7 8s and Kicker KX850.2 amp. It'd be more than loud enough and suprise people when I told them it was just two 8s.

 

I can absolutely vouch for that! I have 2 12" MA Audio in a custom built box between the rear seats. Driven by a MA Audio 1200 Watt 2 channel amp. I can close the windows of the truck, crank it up till your ears bleed, and you can barely here it inside the house. I see some of these ricers drive by and you can hear them coming a block away. My son has 2 Rockford Fosgates in the hatch of his 95 Camaro, with 300/2 amp driving it and you can hear him coming a block away.

And before anyone asks, no I don't drive with it so loud that my ears bleed. I was just testing the system. the benefit of having a system like that is not in the loudness, but in the quality of the sound. Listening to 5.1 surround sound at a comfortable level is just plain awesome! Or watching/listening to a DVD on a long trip.

 

I have 2 15" Kicker CVR on the back seat pushed by a 1001bd rockford fosgate amp and it is loud as hell. With the windows down you can hear me blocks away and no rattle to the truck. I also have 2 10" Audiobaun AWC10T subs under the back seat for when we go on family trips (it soungs pretty goos and pounds not nowhere near what the 15" do) . I just take the 15"s out and hook the 10"s up to the amp and turn the gain down a little.

 

2004 Screw and I put in a Kicker VR10 with a Probox pushed by a 600w Alpine amp..Its....waaayyy loud enough. I agree with most though. Do the sub first then see if you like it. These trucks are very speaker friendly and easy to upgrade.

 

Im actually thinking about going with 2 10s now instead of 2 8s because the 2 8s I was going to use was going to get pretty costly. I need to know if anyone has any suggestions on what 10s to use that have a maximum mounting depth of 6". Thanks for the help.

Also is the Honda's motor running? If it is you couldn't hear the 10" sub for the 10" tailpipe anyway.

 

Does anyone know where to buy the JL stealthbox online? Also does anyone make a box that will fit a 12 with 6" mounting depth? I have a Memphis 12 sitting here not doing anything. I would like to save some money and use it or I will have to get the stealthbox. $600 for a box sounds excessive though.

As for the question at hand, adding just the sub to the stock unit will fill the truck with sound very nicely. Its not going to win awards but for the average joe it will be more than enough. Just need a pac line out converter.

 

I had a covereter with my stock CD-6 unit in my deceased Ranger. It worked ok but when I finally broke down and went aftermarket it sounded worlds better. Course this is just my experience and I'm one of these viscious people that subject poor innocent bystanders to the dreaded killer thump. I guess i could start being more socially "in" and start smoking, drinking, dealing drugs, cussing every other word, spittin tobbacco juice all over everything, etc.,etc.
