Subwoofer/system

hey guys...im thinking of upgrading my system in the truck. Im not sure what i should get. How much better would the system sound with just subs? should i get Two 10 inch subs or a single 12 inch or what? How easy is the install? I plan on buying a box to put it under the rear seat. Do i need an amp or anything else? i dont plan on upgrading the speakers.thanks

just a single 10 would improve the system, start from there and then you can always do some mids and tweets later on.

A single 10" and a decent amp will provide more thump than you'll know what to do with. If your into going def at an early age, get a couple.

You have to sit down and ask yourself "why do I want it?" and "what type of music to I listen to?". Then you'll know what sub to get.

Ive got a single 12" audiobahn and it sounds like two average 12"s, its LOUD and sounds clean. Id say just go with a single 10 but do some research before you buy, I personally wont buy anything but Audiobahn unless I can afford JL. They are great subs. If you want to keep the stock head unit (like I did) your gonna need an RCA adaptor. You can pick one up at best buy or anywhere online for less than $20. The install is really easy as long as you have some basic knowledge.

Just go get a 10" JL and be done with it. Then feed it 200-300 watts and turn some heads. If you really have the cash, get the stealthbox for your truck. Those things are insane.

On making thumps for other people to hear... OK, no worse I suppose than running an open exhaust to annoy people.

So let me tell you the bad news. These trucks have very good 'quiet steel' in the body. You can turn it up till your ears bleed, and it won't sound as loud as a Honda with a ten inch would from the outside.

Those with big sound, try it. Turn the system up till it's loud, then shut it up and walk accross the street. The Screw drivers will get more, of course, because of the extra percentage of glass.

So if I wanted to 'turn some heads' I think I would put some sort of external woofer on the truck. In my case, it would be a snap. Put a large pair of 12"s or whatever, in the front of the bed. Mount the Amp out there also. All the room in the world, no heat problems, or wiring problems. Then when I wanted them to hear it on the next block, flip my front panel back, and let er rip. You could cruise and shake to your hearts content.

yeah i have 2 10's and with the windows up, u can hardly tell theres a system in there. but with the doors open

1 10" with a good amp in a good box should accomplish what u need. i have a single 10" in my 01 with a huge box and big amp and its loud as hell. go ported on the box if ur looking for maximum sound

i wouldnt, then you have to cut into the bed and cab, which is dumb.
on another note, "showing off your bass" is dumb.

Post a picture of your set-up. It defeats the purpose of a truck but still unique none the less.

I think you need some bigger amps for 4 JL 15s? I know four Kicker L7 8s are pumping out 1800w of power.

How many of you guys kept the stock head unit? Did you replace the factory speakers in addition to adding the sub? Did you need more power for the upgraded speakers or does the stock HU do okay?

Why the heck would you have to cut anything? there are already great holes in the bed for passing wires up to battery cable size. As to the signal from the cab, there are wiring channels, with holes precut for either low or high end output. You could make a box of any size that you could quickly remove from the bed if you needed to. This is a common thing here in Southern California. Work the truck all week, then put a large box in the bed with two 12 inchers, and some quick disconnects, for the weekend at the beach or out in the desert.

Showing off your bass is not as dumb as some of the things we see on an hourly basis around here.
It's their truck.

Of course, I personally would rather have my head in a bass drum and let some toddler pound on it, than listen to the music most of these guys are into.

But like I say, it's their truck.

I thought about keeping mine, however I was having troubles every now and then with it not reading CD's. I also had an FM modulated Sirius unit. So I decided to swap out everything.

I replaced the Head Unit with a Pioneer DEH-P80MP with the Sirius tuner to go with it, and also replaced all four of the stock speakers with Infinity Kappa 682.7cf's. It was like night and day the first time I turned it on, big difference. I aslo have a 10 inch powered sub on it's way since the little 6x8's don't really have the ability to produce clean enough lows for me.

All said and done I did it for under a thousand bucks. I'm sure you can do it for much less if you use Ebay... You could buy something similar to what I'm getting (powered sub) that has speaker level inputs and see if that makes you happy. The stock units aren't horrible in any sense, but you know how it is, everyone feels differently about music.

Me i'm in my truck working for as long as 8 hours at a time so I tend to be a bit pickier about the music sounding nice to me.
