Trip Report

I just got back from my trip and thought I'd tell you all about it. I left from Connecticut on the 22nd of May, and got back Jun 1st. My wife and my ****atoo accompanied me in my 04 XL Rcab 2wd long bed 4.6. I have the Ford snapless tonneau cover covering the bed. I also purchased that plastic thingie from ford that mounts behind the seats and provides some storage. I then built a flat, carpeted board that mounted on it and gave me a nice flat area where I could put stuff and not have it slide under the seats.

Our first stop was in Eastern Ohio to see a friend, then a stop in Chicago to see another friend, then on to Montana. The total mileage was 4840 miles, the total fuel used was 245.7 gals, giving me an overall mpg figure of 19.7. The mileage during the trip ranged from a high of 22, traveling across Ohio and Indiana, watching the speed limits, to a low of 17, foot stuck into it really hard, 85 - 90 across parts of Montana AND bucking a 20 - 30 mph head wind! The AC was on a large portion of the time.

As expected, the truck ran flawlessly, rode very comfortably, handled just fine. I used no oil at all.

The 4.6 provided all the power I felt I needed although I did have to step on it a little hard a couple of times. Once, I got hosed by traffic and had to drop down to about 35. When a path cleared, I stepped down to get around the mess and someone tried to jump in. I went to WOT and found out that 1st gear is good to nearly 75 MPH! And yeah, that "little" 4.6 slid all the stuff in the bed back against the tailgate and made me proud!

I've made this same trip in my Cadillac, my Ranger, and now this F-150. By far, the F-150 was better suited and more pleasurable than the Caddy (that's why I sold it!), and more roomy than the Ranger. I actually like the seats in the Ranger better though. The seats in the F-150 have those Bolsters or whatever they're called that keep trying to squeeze my legs together and make me sit in one place and position. The head rests are much better though. Guess I'm too hard to please!

I got two little tiny chips in the windshield, not in the way at all, and absolutely NO chips at all in the hood, grille, bumper, etc. No parking lot dings, no scratches, nothing! I can hardly believe it!

And yes, Punkie (the ****atoo) thoroughly enjoyed herself, as did my wife and I.

So, that was my trip. I spent about 3 hours yesterday washing the outside of it, I'm going to do the inside as soon as I finish this and take it to the dealership for a much needed oil change.

PS. I just previewed this message before submitting it, and had to laugh at the computer's response to my pet! Just for the record, she's a bird of the breed that was featured on the TV show Berretta. Her feelings would be hurt to know she's considered obscene by some stupid computer!
