Would you guys make fun of me if...

I got a 2005 F-150 with a V-6?

If you guys remember me previous post, I am a college student drooling over all of the trucks on here.

Well, the local dealerships around here are offering the 05's for $13,836 - which could definitely fit into my budget! I need a new car as I totaled my Elantra on Mother's Day. I am thinking about picking up my truck this weekend! It is a stripped down V-6 w/no power anything, no CD, but nonetheless it is still a truck.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on the V-6? I know it won't be as beefy or manly as the trucks on here - but it will definitely be an upgrade from my Elantra.

I am thinking Black with the brushed aluminum emblem's, tinted windows, etc. etc. etc.

So me being the owner of an F-150 may be sooner than I thought!

p.s. I can save an extra grand by financing w/Ford. Should I do that?

when I was 19 that's what I bought, ( a 1999 ), it was a sweet truck for what it was.

I'm pretty sure no one would make fun of someone for buying what they can afford. I would however ridicule someone for buying out of their leauge, plus in school you need to save atleast 500 $ per month for beer and tequila.

The sooner you quit given a **** about what people think of you the better off you'll be. If you want a truck to drive around, go buy one as long as you can afford it, are you happy with it, etc. You can do alot to a base truck to make it what you want it to be, sounds like what you need at your age, cheap, dependable, low insurance, throw some rims, tint, radio and you will have a nice ride.

Go with the Ford financing it will help out on your credit, save you some money, also ask them about the $500 college discount see if you qualify

Luckily my beer budget is only about $40/month

There is an abundant amount of free beer on campus, so one usually does not have to pay for it...

Back on track, it is what I can afford and I would be proud of it regardless.

never never do your financing through the stealership, they will take you somewhere. allwaya allways go through a credit union, if i may suggest one, try macdill federal credit union, they are one of the best in the bay area

nah, we wouldn't make fun of you. We would welcome you to the club

Now if you showed up in a V6 Silverado... then we'd have to take some liberties

Well sometimes yes, sometimes no. There are times when Ford Credit is wanting to push vehicles and some really great interest rates are available. Then there are times when even local banks or credit unions can beat them. The most important thing is to be informed on what the best deal is. And with any financing institution, watch for "hidden charges" and find out a real payment in the end and make sure all the numbers add up! The only way to get screwed is to make an uninformed decision.

Heck yeah go with the V-6. These new body style trucks are superior to any truck on the road. The aftermarket offers lots of sharp parts. A new grille on an XL would be my first mod...

yeah, go with the v-6....you can get something nice to drive while in school and then trade in once you've built some credit and get something nicer and more your style. I had a 4 cylinder nissan sentra my four years of college and i had to trade in my 86 ranger. Three weeks after graduation i went and got my 04 f150 and have been happy ever since. :santa:

I am very interested in an aftermarket grille. Could you or anyone link me up to some nice ones? Suggestions are welcome.

I would think about getting the 5 speed with the V6. In a short bed regular cab it would run pretty darn well. That would be a fun truck! If you are going with black, you may want to add A/C, but even that can be added later.

If you can get the $1000 kicker for using Ford Credit go for it; if the rate is too high, wait the 90 or 120 days and refinance it. Those few months will not cost you anywhere close to $1000.

Well I know Carriage works makes a grille. Someone with an FX4 should chime in because I have seen some of those who have changed the whole grille with the painted slats for a billet similar to the replacement for the honeycomb grille. (Pics please somebody??) Dude an all black XL would probably be sweeeeet!

Here's a link to Carriage Work's website.

And Stylin Concepts, but you could go to your favorite vendor.

I know Trenz and some other ones make a grille for these trucks, but someone can show you some pics, if you buy the truck, of course.

My previous 01 F-150 SC was a V6, i put an after market muffler on it and it was great, thats not a small V6 they put in them, so the tone it made sounded great, (not like a 1972 Gremlin with a straight 6 would sound).
I also had no problem with the performance.
