Whats next for my truck? YOU help me decide!
Ok guys, since I am making good money now at Ford, I wanna put a LITTLE bit (maybe $1000-$2000) into my truck. It's a 2005 STX Supercab with the 4.6L V8. Of the following choices, please tell me a) what you recommend and b) why?
- Exhaust
- Rims/Tires
- Tuner
- Tonneau Cover
- Lift (6")
- Window Tint
- Sub/Amp box
These are all things that I want to do eventually, but I wanna know what you guys think should be the very next thing. So far my only mod is the cruise control/leather wrapped wheel mod. Give me your opinions please, and also if you are recommending something from my list, give me a brand name, and part number too. Keep in mind, I dont want my truck to be loud like an SLP Loudmouth setup, or haul ***, I just wanna make it more "my truck" instead of just another white STX cruisin down the road. Thanks in advance..

I vote for rims and/or exhaust, although your budget might be a little "light" to do both, depending on what rim and tire package you would be looking at (?).
I think the right set of rims and tires can turn an ordinary white truck into a really nice vehicle!
And who can argue with the throaty roar you can get from a V8 with the right aftermarket exhaust set-up?

I agree, we have an STX on the lot with Magnaflows that I drove today and it is sweet sounding, maybe that will be my first official "mod." What kind of power gains can I expect as well as, what will it do to my already non existent gas mileage?
I say
exhaust, tuner, and window tint. An air intake would help the new exhaust. A nice wheel/tire package is nice too but you might need more than 1000.00 to 2000.00. The exhaust will neither hurt nor improve your gas mileage. At least mine has not. You may even have enough to add in a level kit for that nice wheel/tire package down the road.

The first mods I did were tint & sound system (bass amp, subwoofer, tweeters)
Your whole list sounds good!
just start checking things off it
Performance wise, the biggest bang for the buck mods are Xcalibrator custom tuner, Airforce One intake, Magnaflow cat-back exhaust; in that order

I would go for wheels and tires. These add the most impact to appearence and make your truck truly stand out from the pack.

Like everyone else said tires and rims will make it stand out the most. But the biggest improvement visually for my STX was probably the window tint. My truck came with no tint at all and it made it look cheap IMO so for a hundred bucks it really help out alot. Second I would have to say that the autospring really spruced up the looks for another $100 and it will allor you to get the big rims/tires you want for the 6" lift later down the road which is what im planning on. (if PA doesnt come out with a body lift for the 4.6 by then) As far as the most productive mods, I love my STX but wished it came with power options. With no doubt, for less than $200 you can add power locks, power windows, alarm system, and remote window module and you will get more use out of it than any other mod.
PS - Something else to set it apart from "all the other STX's" is to just remove the sticker. I doubted it at first but Im glad I did, it really cleans up the look.

power window & locks
please tell me more about how I can add power windows and locks to my STX scab! Where can I get the kit? Is it hard to install? This will definately be my next mod for that price!!!! thanks
If your new to the forum try using the search and you can find alot of info pn this subject which helped me. In a nut-shell, Im 17 and did all the install almost completely by myself. AKA, its not hard at all as long as you have some knowledge with tools. The only thing that takes some research is the wiring for the alarm but if you or anyone needs it for the kit I got then let me know.
Heres the list of the exact stuff I got:
Locks and Alarm System - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...777429768&rd=1
Power Windows - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW (this kit is about $20 more than what I paid becuase I dont have illuminated switches)
Remote Window Modules - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...777032984&rd=1

The alarm guy at work is doing my door lock actuators for $75 a door next week, after hours. And the tint will go on sometime next week too. So we'll see whats up with that, but at least I will be able to unlock the door with the remote instead of having to put the key in the lock and turn it every damn time I get in the truck.
if you do anything they should all compliment eachother, like the tuner exhaust and intake, as a total package would maximize your power gains, but if you only do the tuner and say window tint you'll half assing your power gains and appearence, same thing vice versa, if looks are your thing do the window tint and wheels at the same time.
I'd say after you get the power windows, doors, and whatever else your getting now. Get the leveling kit, wheels, tires, and tint at the same time. Wheels and tires are always the most noticeable thing to make your truck stand out from the crowd.
