Agreed... Air flow while moving is air flow. This topic has been beat to death over on the Lightning site over the past 4-5 years. If I remember correctly there is about 2 or 3 degress difference in the air temperature from under and outside the hood. There were even some dyno numbers thrown around regarding this over there and the difference in horsepower between an open filter and a completely closed, what you are calling cold air here, was well under 5 horsepower.
I ran an open AF1 filter on my Lightning, A friend on mine has a Lightning with the exact same mods that I had on mine, except he has a "cold air" sysem verses my open AF1, I made 495 horses/ 628 lb.ft, he makes 485 horses/600 lb.ft. Go figure....Oh yea, I ran 12.30's and he runs 12.40's.

The Airraid system I am referring to is an open filter system like the AF1 - not a completely closed box. The only difference is the cold air dam of the Airraid looks like a better/tighter fit in the area where outside air is coming in from the fender. They are both very similar in overall design and performance. I guess if you really don't like having any constraints on air flow, you could completely remove the cold air dam on the AF1, since it doesn't appear to be needed for support.
