5spd auto tranny in an F150??

Having left the F150 for another truck with a 5spd auto.... I am trying to keep an ear out to see if Ford has any plans to implement a new tranny in the F150?? If they did it would likely bring me back... I see Ford offers the 5spd auto in several other models of cars/SUV's..... why not the F150??

That 5 speed in the "stripped down" models is a standard, not an automatic. I'm guessing that it costs more to put a 5 speed auto in the F-150 than Ford is willing to spend (R&D, per unit, or both), especially since they are selling just fine without them. Seems lame to me but it's the bottom line that does the talking.

im not sure if ford is still using the same model m5od tranny as in previous gen. f150's. its not the best tranny, but i wish i had one in my 05. it prolly cant handle the torque of the new 5.4's but these trucks would haul *** with it. my '01 4.2 has the 5spd and that truck really moves for being a 6 cyl supercab. i love my new truck but itd be a blast with a 5 spd...

EDIT i see that u said 5 spd auto... yeah that would be nice too. i think ford is behind thetimes on that one

Maybe someday, the ZF 6 speed in the Navigator will migrate throughout the rest of the pickup/SUV line, but who knows. 4 cogs compared to 5 isn't necessarily a detriment anywho.

I wonder if a Torqueshift would work?

Didn't think about that, the Torqueshift is already behind gas engine Superduties for the '05 MY. The Torqueshift is a physically bigass gearbox though, may present some packaging problems in an F150.

My 2001 Ranger had a 5 speed automatic and I really wish my F150 had one. I think the passing gear would be much easier to get in and out of if it had a 5-speed.

My only complaints of my F150 is the lack of a 5-speed and the crappy Lariat electric A/C controls (I really miss the simple 3 dial A/C controls my Ranger had because when it was set where I wanted it, it stayed there. Now I have to go through a pre-launch status check before I leave my house making sure all the right buttons are pushed )
