A/C recirculate question

I've got an 04 Lariat, should the A/C recirculate function stay on when the truck is turned off and restarted? Every time I start my truck I must press the recirculate button even though it was on recirculate when I turned the truck off....is that normal? Every other vehicle I've had has remained on recirculate after a shutdown and restart.

Mine does that too. It is really irritating. I haven't seen anyting about making it a locking function. One other quirk is that the A/C button stays on after you change the control to any other setting from the Max A/C setting. Weird.

Recirc. mode is designed to deactivate under certain conditions. If the control is in any position other then Max A/C, recirc. will occasionally turn off to allow fresh air into the cab and prevent buildup of CO2. It sounds crazy but it's true! Today's vehicles are built so tight that if recirc. stayed on for the duration of a long road trip, it is possible to get CO2 levels high enough to cause blurred vision and fatigue. This is why it sometimes has to be turned on after a restart, or it may turn off on it's own. For me it's about 50/50, sometimes it stays on, sometimes it doesn't.

Thanks for the replies fellas. Hmmm, we've got some always, maybe, sometimes, never, etc. Sounds like Ford was really on top of this as well. At least it's consitently inconsistent. Well done Henry!

It does that intentionally so that less people complain about the odor which occurs when you leave the HVAC in recirc.

I leave my EATC on auto all the time and the recirc button goes off every time I shut the truck off. Even with the EATC set, it cools down much quicker with the button on. When you have black leather in Phoenix, you want to cool down as quickly as possible.

My EATC switches to re-circulate when it’s needed and vice versa. It changes vent output automatically too. It took a little getting used to, but I’ve grown to like it

Well, they figured more people would want it that way than having to push the A/C button everytime you turn of recirc. Think about it, you get in the truck, put it on MAX to cool it down, and then when it is about right, flip it to the setting just to the right (upper vents)........you wouldn't want the A/C to turn off anyway, just the recirc part of it. I would hate to have to hit the A/C button again everytime I changed off MAX A/C.

I have to reset mine every time too. It really sux and I sure miss the old three **** controls my Ranger used to have.

Although this and the lack of a 5-speed auto are my only real complaints, I guess thats not too bad

Matt 05'FX4,

I agree it should stay on when turned to the other A/C settings but it even stays on when you turn it past the off position and over to the heat settings. I think it should turn off once you turn the selector past the off position. Try it and see.
