Door lock question

How come both front doors can be opened (from inside) even while locked?

I can kinda see maybe the driver's door... but the fact that the passenger door can be opened while doing 70 mph seems crazy to me. Not real comfortable with that idea, since my kids will often be with me.

Is that one of the adjustable lock options?

I have an '05 XLT.

That is normal for a Ford product,as long as I can remember every ford I ever owned was like that. It is just a design feature that Ford has used for decades

The only way to fix this is with a child safty lock. On a front passenger door though, this would make life hell for any adult that will sit in that seat.

Keep the kiddies belted in and stay on top of it is about the only solution.

Hmmm! Think of this scenario...an accident, vehicle on fire, dead driver strapped in seat, disabled electrical system, you're a front seat passenger.

I think Ford has a better idea.

I agree! If your kid is stupid enough to open the door at 70 MPH and take the leap, think of it as automotive "Natural Selection"!!!
