Resale Value?
Resale Value?
I am thinking about selling my 2004 F150 2WD Supercab Lariat. The MSRP when I bought it was $33,600 and I have 13K miles on it. It is in perfect condition and has never been back to the dealer. The only reason I want to sell it is because I sold my 97 F150 4x4 and my 2000 Yamaha Roadstar to purchase this truck and now I miss my motorcycle. I am going to by a slightly older truck and another motorcycle when I sell this truck. I am asking $24,900. Does this sound like a good price? I also have Magnaflow dual exhaust, Ford Chrome oval step bars, XM radio paid until January 06, and Carriage Works Billet replacement grille (Upper and Lower). I also thought about taking a trade for an older truck plus some cash.

My 04 had an MSRP of over $31,000 and I paid $22,500 as a leftover and it was brand new. The extras you have put on your truck probably decreased the value of your truck rather than increasing it. The "personal touch" you gave your truck was what you wanted but it makes many potential buyers wary of buying it. I think your asking price is high. I bought my truck new for several thousand than KBB quoted for a used one.
I think your mods won't hurt the resale value. Air intakes, and major lift/lower mods might, but most people like the dual exhaust, and just mentioning that you did it for the sound stops the hot rod phobic from worrying about it.
They probably won't help much, though.
The one thing those of us that got our trucks with rebates forget, is that the rebates are not always avalable, or ever avalable on used trucks. So the big three online price sources are not out of line. And remember, you paid the amount before the rebate, they just gave you some back. Check the sales tax.
So if you use KBB, Nada and Edmunds, you can get a fair idea what to sell it for. Kbb is asking, Edmunds is what the DMV said they sold for.
Dunno about Nada. Think it's more asking.
Truck sales are soft right now, but as gas slowly drops they will heat back up.

I just bougt my truck less than 2 months ago. It is a 04 FX4, 5.4 auto loaded with every option except power sunroof (leather, 6 disc, slider rear window, etc etc etc) and it had 18,000 miles. Is in perfect condition. I paid $24,000 for mine. You can buy a new 2wd for less than your asking price I bet. I could have bought an 04 XTL (not fx4 or lariat, but was 4x4) brand new off the lot for $25,000 and some change but I wanted the nicer truck.
KBB says private party value is $24,820. I still think I can get close to that. Truck sales in South Georgia are still strong. Even with the rebates, a new truck with the same equipment as mine will be over $28,000 off the lot by the time you add sales tax, tag, title, and dealer prep.

i went to a dealer and got a resale between 17-18000 based on my mods. They want to resale something as close to stock as possible and i dont really plan on getting rid of it. I was looking at resale to possibly getting a new mustang gt or an fx4 but i think its gonna be about 63 months before i get something else. :santa:
