for you guys who have switched these into your xl/stx's besides the dealer and Ebay is there another vendor to buy from? They are very hard to find on ebay and Ford will kill you with their pricing. If not, do you guys know what Ford is selling them for?

Last I heard, Ford was getting about 300 bucks, but that is with mileage set. Plus about an hour's install.

There are a few of these in salvage yards, miles may vary, but it's a possible.
I got my second one, that I later sold, out of a very low mileage wreck.

Yeah, i think the price would be WAY lower if idiots didnt start jacking it up on the first couple days. But thats how it works so oh well

 

I've been considering doing this myself, but was wondering, if I swap out for one of those will the tach work in my XL? I assume its like the cruise was and is already wired in the harness? Also, does the FX4 digi readout have the gear selector in it since they have a console shifter?

 

Tach, etc work. Door chimes, headlight chimes, door activation of door light won't work Gear position works.
You are supposed to put it in, and then pay ford 60-85 bucks to turn on the info panel. That's not the fancy one, that won't work without some extreme messing. Just the little one that on the STX gives odo ond trip. On the FX4 it gives compass and temp. The STX XL don't have that.

The swap is no longer a cost effective thing. Prices are up, and you can buy a tach now, or a scangauge. So it's a past mod.

The console is an option, not standard. I didn't want the flow through, and this is what my cluster looks like.
