It seems to be fairly typical for some of the transmission fluid to leak into the transfer case. Soooo some Mercon V will get there anyway most likely.

I have Royal Purple waiting to be "installed" for the transmission and diff.
I got a transmission drain and new filter to install too.

The tranny engineers specifically recommend that you NOT use Royal Purple in a Ford automatic.
