Lemon Law Alternatives.

My truck is in for the third time for the steering wheel vibration and assuming it is not fixed this time it will be "Lemon Lawable".
Under Florida law they would have to either refund my money or swap it out for a similar vehicle. The problem is I really love my truck as is vibe or not, and since it is yellow it cant really be replaced. So I was thinking instead of the buyback/refund, getting the dealer to give me a free extended warranty. Anybody think this would work? or should I ask for more?

They may be willing to go for it, but I doubt the dealer will be the approval authority for it. My guess is that they will contact Ford and try to work it out so the dealer won't take the hit on the warranty.

If the vibe isn't that bad, an extended warranty may be the way to go. Be careful of what you sign and ensure that you are getting the warranty for ONLY the vibe, rather than forfitting all rights of further claims against Ford if other problems creep in.

Hope this helps.

Paul

the way I look at it, if u have a lemon as a truck, why would u want to keep it? I know you love ur truck, but if they can't fix it, it's a lemon and it can be replaced!
The only bad thing about the lemon law is that it takes FOREVER!! I'm on 38 days into it and still haven't heard from the arbitration letter yet.

The biggest reason I want to keep it is that the vibe really isnt that bad Im just worried about future problems with it i.e. tire wear, suspension, steering, resale, plus the only reason I got the 04 instead of an 05 was the color Im really stuck on yellow. If I did request warranty it would be nothing less than the very best plan for the longest term. Problem is if they dont go for it Im not sure if Id get another F150 or a mustang gt.

Prior to my Ford I had a 2002 Chevy. Many chevy owners where having drive clunk/vibe issues on their trucks the good old Shakerado's! Several owners settled with free extended waranties from GM on the issue, (me being one of them) While others went with the full replacement of the vehicle depending on the lemon laws. Same with the cold start knock problems many people had.

While it was an annoyance lots thought the extended warrany was a fair trade. Personally I chose the extended warranty on my truck. Which was fine until the entire transmission blew out at 30k miles. At which point I was treated like crap by my dealer, who I had had problems with before.

They took well over a month to swap out the tranny, but they did replace it. I was inconvenienced by not having my vehicle for well over a month. I wish I would have pushed to have another vehicle in the first place rather than the free waranty they offered me.

Now I don't worry about it because I traded it in on this truck.

Just a thought from a guy who has been there in a similar situation. Your replacement truck might not be yellow, but I'm guessing the peace of mind will far outweigh what color you get.
