That's the problem, we don't want it to scan to the next station available, we want it to go to the next preset station that we have programmed into our radio's memory. I've tried it with the auto on and off and it doesn't make a difference.

alright, i got the seat memory sorted out. hehe
Sounds like the '05's scan all stations instead of the presets. Thats kinda dumb. In fact it borders on being a dealer fix situation. The clunky headliner/doorslam thing... I can live with unless it gets worse.

Has anyone figured out how to make the '05 Seek control on the steering wheel go to the next preset station yet? This is my one major gripe with the stereo on my '05 Lariat.

i played around with the controls and read the whole book. i cant see any way to fix it. It sucks though, i never use the seek button anymore because i dont want to sift thru a bunch of crappy stations while i'm trying to drive. Its the opposite of convenient.
Last resort i can think of, contact the actual stereo manufacturer and ask them.. Who makes these things anyway?

04 vs 05

On my 04 Lariat that button is called MEM and in my 05 KR it's called SEEK. SO it should'nt go threw your programed stations or else it would have been called MEM/SEEK button. Maybe something ford should put in the 06.

I've got an '04 Lariat with an '05 model year CD-6/MP3 player I bought off EBay in it. Before, with my single CD player, it'd skip through my presets. Now, it'll scan through all radio stations, which sucks. Glad to see I wasn't losing my mind on this one.

2006 Lariat manual says it should work both ways!

I have a 2006 Lariat, and the scan-only SEEK behavior.

The "2006 F-150 (f12) Owners Guide (post-2002-fmt) USA (fus), page 78-79" I have says regarding the steering wheel seek control:
(In AM, FM1, or FM2 mode) Press and release SEEK to select the next preset station or press and hold SEEK to select the next strong station within the selected radio band.
It goes on to say the SEEK button should invoke similar behvior, depending on a press-and-release versus press-and-hold operation for the Satellite Radio mode and CD mode as well.

For me, I get no difference in behavior between the two button press styles. My conclusion is there must be some (service) computer configuration that must be performed to get the published behavior, but it's not evident to me based on the owner's guide or the quick reference guide.

I have a service appointment to address this setup for tomorrow; I'll report any magic they perform...

UPDATE follows:
I went to my appointment, and it was a waste of time -- they never even wrote up a service ticket. I actually went on my own and flagged down the alarm guy, who pointed me to the radio "expert". This guy took the time to check the service bulletins (zero) and we then test three other lariats in stock -- same behavior (no advance to preset). Service dude's conclusion is that's how it's supposed to work.

But I wasn't done yet. I insisted that since my manual clearly says it should behave differently I should have some other recourse, aside from turning the other cheek...so I've submitted a short write-up to some other "expert" at my dealership, who will see it Monday. Maybe something will come of it, I don't know.

I do think this is odd behavior and contrary to every other vehicle I've driven with steering wheel controls. The manual suggestes advancing to the presets in numerous places, as does the quick guide. I suppose I'll write a letter to FMC and see what they have to say. Maybe this is the beginning of a TSB?

What? Do the 2004's do this? I have mem1 and mem2 both set, but my seat never moves when I open the door.

3. the stereo controls on steering wheel: can the SEEK button be programmed to ONLY scan my presets, instead of every stupid station in the universe?

4. thats all. Awesome truck, handling is unreal. I just ditched a '97 Safari SLT. That thing has the worst suspension in postwar history.
Im confused, i have no "memory 1 and 2", do i?

EDIT: I went out and looked. maybe i have power seats, but no memory settings?

EDIT #2: Must be that the "deluxe heated seats" have the #1 and 2 postions. i only have power seats, not "deluxe heated power seats" Funny stuff.

To clear it up...the 04's have the "mem" on the stearing wheel...to change presets....

the 05's have "seek" to change individual stations.

Honesty i got used to my dads 04 before i got my 05 and hated going through every station but after a while im glad mine seeks. There is only enough room to put 6 stations before switching to FM2 and where im at i can pick up at least 10 GOOD stations so i love it.
