I too have an 04 w/ Audiophile 6 disc. It does NOT mute when backing up. I have always thought it was supposed to though, but thought I just had a setting turned off or something.

When my RSS cuts in my radio volume lowers significantly but doesn’t totally mute. My build date was 9-03 Kansas City

Bingo..that must be it. Both of my 04's had RSS and NO audiophile and they muted, the 05 has audiophile and doesnt mute. Must be that the audiophile system doesnt do it. Another mythbuster episode solved!

LOL cmon guys...that reverse sensing beep is so loud you can hear it over anything. I've been bumping the hell out of my audiophile system and I still hear that beep while backing up. It is a solid feature though, would have a hell of a time parallel parking in the city without it

Actually duke, the reason I brought it up is my beeper is not really all that loud, if the stereo is cranked you can miss it at times. The fact that some radios will lower volume is cool but really no biggie. Besides, if I back over a ricer I will probably hear the six foot wing cracking before my beeper anyway! I SOO love this truck!

Lol, and backing up over a ricer would sound better than a beeping. Thats crazy though, mine beeps so loud is unbelieveably annoying. I wish my radio and my beeper would turn down a little...it sounds like a backing up a huge delivery truck....beep beep beep beep beep

But my 04 has audiophile and lowers???? I think it depends on who is working the line day to day.
