Total cost :
My wife and half my assets in the divorce settlement!!!

A fast, well modded truck to get to court on time = priceless....

Actually it really was enough to cause friction with the other half. Thats enough for this month....

I figure if I wait until the warranty runs out I will have stashed enough away to afford the Whipple.....

I got ya beat, after my trade and everything, I owe $10k, not including interest/tax of course. But it is nice to have a new truck and not owe $30k+ on it.

And I DO live in the Coachella Valley, maybe you better look at a map again Chris...

Um, I didn't have a trade. The price after rebates, plus tax fees etc. was 12,995.

OOps;
I was refering to the town of Cochella. Must have typed Valley by error.

I was a district manager of autoparts stores in Indio and Cochella in the 80's.

Haven't been there since 83. Had the low desert for about six months, stores in Cat City, Blythe, DHS, Yucca Valley, Indio, Cochella, Palm Desert. Since I lived in Victorville at the time, it was quite a drive most days. My office was in San Berdoo.

Sorry about the mixup, getting old and senile lately.

Skill, brains, looks, bargaining ability…

OK, so it was dumb luck, and any skill, etc. was my wife’s.

LA newspaper sale, they had three of them for that price, a little less well equipped. Nice though. We managed to not get any of the three, and the sales manager felt bad we had driven so far, so he offered us this more expensive one at the sale price. My wife affects people that way sometimes… She’s a nice person.

We test drove it, it was great. So we bought it. I had been planning on buying a used truck (or Tahoe) as this is actually a third vehicle for the two of us, but at that price, new was better. The cheapest decent used one I had seen in a couple weeks of looking was a 1998 XLT, with 54k, for 13,000. I really liked a 2001 red flair-side with 50k, but they wouldn’t talk down a penny under 16,500, even for cash. So we felt pretty good getting this one with 5 miles on the clock, and that’s after the test drive…

Rubber Mats - $30
Headunit - $450 (soon to be replaced)
Bedliner - $100
Tint - $65
Daystar - $110 + 50 (Alignment and Balance)

and I have no clue how much money I've put into this thing in cleaning products!

So I've ONLY spent $805 and it'll soon be about $4805 soon as I sell one of my dirtbikes!

Grille - 130
Exhaust - 220
Autospring - 120 - which btw is sitting in my garage now
LIFETIME Alignment - 130 - best investment for that truck
Rims and Tires - 1500
All stereo stuff - 350
6" suspension - 1500
Add a leaf - 90
New windshield wipers - 25

That totals up to a little over 4 grand, but I'm sure I've thrown a bit more into it, I just can't remember.

For me, it's not about recouping the cost of my mods. I just like modding it and driving around a sweet looking truck. I know, overall, that the money could be going to better uses, but hey, I'm single and it's better than spending it on dope. :-)
