These trucks are like Harleys...you can ride a stock Harley, but few people really do. I dumped $9K into my Harley before I sold it and have set aside about the same for my 2005 Screw now on order.

Mods will be extensive. I'll post pics and details when the truck is here.

Why did the bike go? 1) I'm getting engaged in a couple of months, 2) I'm moving someplace with a pretty short riding season (shorter than Nebraska), so the bike was going to sit about half of the year, 3) my 1995 F150 has 116500 miles and it was time for a new vehicle.

That said, I made a promise to myself that if the bike had to go, the truck I bought would have to kick some butt...and, folks, it will.

Haven't given up on Harleys either...just taking a break until I live someplace a little more sunny!

Paul

Didn’t do much for the first year and a half (new Oct03) … figured I’d wait and see if I’d keep it or not?

Functionality or non-cosmetic component $ numbers … +/- a few dollars … totaled by purchase (day) but not in chronological order … should be close, not worth digging!
5 BFG tires … $825+-?
* Corsa Tourting … $630
** Efans & pulleys … $650
* Shocks & leveler … $550
Topper & Bedrug … $1900?
Mud Flaps & misc … $200+
* Predator & tow mirrors … $450
* Gears, Posi, prodigy etc … $2000+
Total est … $7200’ish

… and doesn’t count the many other things like stingers, *****, WD hitch, stuff tried but didn’t like, etc … Anyway … another $2200+ lined up on the list… and of that, AF1 is awaiting shipment. Might even get a few non-functional things!?

* Recent (2005)
** Waiting for install

Thought long and hard about that one...the thought of a perfectly good Harley sitting that long (and that much money tied up in it) made me make the choice to sell it and go with a Lariat.

The new Harley truck will be great, but I really wish they offered it in a Screw. Had that been offered, it may have pushed me to choose differently.

Plus, my new job is going to be rough time wise...even when the weather is good, I won't have the time to ride like I do now.

They guy that bought the bike said it best...you only take breaks away from Harleys...they NEVER really get out of your blood. If he's right, I'll be back in a couple of years.

Hey Chris,

Where'd you get your cruise done for $60.00? My FX4 wheel came in the other day and I called the selling dealer, and they said it was $84. Does that sound reasonable?

Oh, and as for my mod list:

$100.00 Leather wrap steering wheel

That's about it...LOL.

Hi, 02SuperCrew4X. I took it into Citrus Ford, in Ontario, near the 10.
I called around to half a dozen places for the two programming jobs I wanted, and found almost a 50% spread. and that's just amoung the folks that would do it.

Flat rate for most programming is about 85 bucks, so out there in the low desert, 84 is not unfair.

Galpin Ford was cheaper, but not enough to warrant the drive into the Valley.
The leather wheel sure feels good, doesn't it? I have had two plastic wheels, both fine, but the leather is nice on a long drive.

Sure does

you know what feels even better? Having a leather wheel and knowing I did not pay $41,000 for an FX4 just to get that feature

Where'd you come up with that price? MSRP on a supercab FX4 can be as low as $35,330. A-plan on that same truck is $29,835, a far cry from $41,000.

Allow for Calif additions, (note, he lives here in the Desert), Tax at 8.25 to 8.75 shipping charges, handling, fee tax, assuming not paid cash, interest on the difference, I think 41 k is a very low estimate.
Most dealers here only have 'loaded' trucks, loaded with options you don't want or need. They don't order unless you are paying top dollar. I think it's not the same in other areas, but I know that's the way it is in the Golden State. Oh, yes, and to ensure you do it the govt's way, you can't buy a new truck out of state and just bring it in. Calif laws don't like that.

A-plan at a California dealership? you presume he has a relative, friend, etc at the dealership.
He is in Indio, Not Coachella Valley. If you don't understand the reference, it's because you don't live there.

Now I paid under 13k for my STX new, but every other dealer wanted 26 up for the same truck. Sale price.
