today i went to the dealer to test drive a 2005 f150 and i didn't like the way it rode it seamed to have a slight vibration a 45mph it also seemed to shift hard ,hard enough to spill a cup of coffee but only on hard acceleration from a dead stop, and the salesman told me that this was normal because the tires need to be "broken in" and that the new f150 had a "learning transmission" and that it needed to be driven for a couple weeks so that the trans. could learn my driving habits needless to say i didn't buy it, is the salesman correct ?

 

In my opinion....

He's correct on the shifting. The on board computer will learn your driving habits/techniques and adjust the vehicle to best suit your style.

As for the vibration, absolutely not correct. There should be no vibe what so ever. This could be a result of several things though (ie: tire balance, driveline vibe, etc).

there are pages and pages about the vibe here. If you want the truck, buy it but present this vibe information to the salesreptile (no offense Suncoast) and tell them it needs to be fixed prior to taking delivery.

The test drive the truck before you sign for it. make sure that the vibe is indeed fixed and no longer present.

Very very few of the 2005's have any type of vibe.
I would drive a couple more, just to make sure it isn't just
the way a truck rides compared to a car.

I would say BUY ONE!

 

Don't buy that truck. If it has vibes you will have problems.!

 

When I test drove my leftover 04, it had been sitting a good while and the tires were flatspotted and the brake disks had rusted some. It rode and drove terribly with shakes and vibes from everywhere. I bought it anyway with the promise that they would fix any problems if they didn't go away in a reasonable time. After a couple of days and a hundred miles or two (more or less), it smoothed out and has been great. My only issue has been the clutch packs and rear end whine that will be corrected next week.

 

Like most have already said, drive a couple more and find one that doesn't vibrate.

The tranny will settle down.

I love my '05 FX4.

 

I would also drive another, mine drove great on the test drive, then at about 7000 miles mine developed the rear end shutter and warped brake rotors, (both were fixed) so you never know, but my truck is part of the minority not the majority.

 

^^^ Exactly, I would stay away if it had a vibration. I would definatly test drive others first. Good luck.
