Bucket seats are the work of the devil, can't beat getting exactly what you want (hint hint Toyota and Nissan...). Hope you find your perfect truck.

You found a dealer truck with the 3.73 LS? I suppose with the 4x4 option that isn't quite as big of a stretch as with the 4x2 I am looking for.

Down here in Houston, the only standard cabs I am seeing are stripped-down STX's with the V6 -- in fact I have yet to test drive a standard cab with even the 4.6 V8, much less the 5.4 that I would want! Standard cabs must be more popular up your way, because down here in this part of Texas they are somewhat of a rare breed....
Everything I looked at here in the mountains (Ford, Chevy, etc) had a 3.73 with LS and it's difficult to find a 4X2. If you have one, you can't sell it. I guess it's the mountains, mud, snow and farmers.

For the most part, we dont really know waht is going to happen until Ford annouces it. The same thing goes with "The Pope Pre-game Show." We could argue all day and still not be right. We will see what happens when it happens.

Does anyone know if the 4.6L engine will have the 3 valve per cyclinder engine in 2006?

I would like to have an supercab STX with just a little more horsepower.

Im sure its going to be tough to decide between the two, but, have you seen the thread in Genral "how hot is the new mustang?" It seems like if you dont order a new mustang soon, the way its going you mat be waiting for an 07 "Stang.

Or you can come down to south GA and get one...there are plenty of new V6 and GTs on the lots (including a few verts) and even several used ones.

Oh believe me -- I am well aware of the "awkward" supply and demand situation the Mustang is in right now! (Especially on the model I would order -- GT with a 5-speed.) Quite frankly, that is probably the only reason the F-150 is even still in the running.

The Mustang market is being driven right now by a bunch of folks who will pay almost anything to be in the "hot" car, and as such, all sanity (from both a pricing and supply standpoint) has left this vehicle. The thing that would probably tip me towards getting an F-150 instead is my unwillingness to get caught up in this frenzy -- namely my refusal to pay a dealer MSRP+ for a vehicle that will probably be selling at a fairly steep discount in a year or two. (See the PT Crusier as a perfect example of this in action!)

But hey -- the way I see it, having a new F-150 as my "Plan B" is really a pretty good problem to have!

You're probably aware of this, but you can search dealer inventory from Ford's web page for every dealer in Houston. It's real easy to select the cab, bed length, engine, and drivetrain you want and then see who has it.

I used that function to find what I was looking for- an FX4 that had a bench seat- in Houston. Found out that hardly anyone down here orders "trucks"...they all seem to select bucket seats and every electronic gizmo on the list.
Every dealer in Houston? I searched EVERY dealer's inventory in CA and found the exact truck I wanted 5 hours north in the bay area and took the train up to get it.

I just "hop-scotched" from dealer to dealer using their address (zip) as I went along to go further out as I went. I looked at my MS Streets and Trips map to make sure I got every last area. Very time consuming but worth it in the end.

No. Ford got stupid with the options on the sticks. Need to move up to the superdutys for that, or search used in the last gen f150. We love our 97.

to appease the guys buying worktrucks? fact is, almost all buyers of the high end, high margin trucks want auto.

very smart considering the profit problems they've had lately.

manual tranny

I won't move up to a super duty cause I don't haul heavy loads and the 150 is tons better offroad then the sdutys
I would go with a v-6 manual like they are offering now but I need 4 wheel drive.
I do have an 05 but I would get rid of it in a heartbeat for an 06 manual.
the throttle response and performance of the slushbox is absolutely crappy.
i would swear to it that my 2003 4.6 manual would have out ran my 05 5.4 auto any day any situation.

Just found out about a few new things for the '06 F-150's:

* Sirius Radio Package available from the factory.
* 20" rims available as an option.
* New gold color - Smokestone Metallic.
* All other colors from '05 appear to carry over.

Anxious to see what Ford's 20" rims will be like!
