On my 2004 FX4. It is a white truck with standard black mirrors and they are the kind with a blinker. The local dealership quoted me a price of nearly $400 to fix it which I think is completely unreasonable. There is no body damage - all that broke is the mirror glass and the outer piece of molding that holds it on.

Can this parts be bought elsewhere - Ford seems AWFULLY proud of their parts!

Find the most local a Ford parts dismanltler's, there are pleanty of passed on (wrecked) F-150's with good parts to give. Ford should charge only like $40 to install.
Good Luck, i can tell from experience and a careless girlfreind the Explorer mirrors aren't cheap either....

 

I bought one from the parts department at my local ford for $110. Of course, I put it on myself. Seems like ford is charging you $300 for labor. It is held on by 3 bolts, so that means, they are getting $100 per bolt. That seems right on with the rest of their charges for service.

 

Try these sites: FordPartsNetwork and FordPartsOnline . Maybe they can help you get one for less.

 

FX4's don't have blinkers mounted on the mirror, only Lariats

it is an option you can get, they come with the heated mirror package FYI

 

For $400 you n get 2 new Custom Mirrors by Street Scene with Front and Rear turn signals! Might be a nice touch!

 

There could be a few members of this board with mirrors to sell. I have a set removed when I replaced with power folding mirrors. My passenger side mirror has the turn signal but also noticeable scratches on the outside edge.

 

You can find them on Ebay, all the time. As well like mentioned above many members have changed out the factory mirrors as well. Check the classifides above.

Thanks for the comments on the good job I did on the mirror guys Well - in 20 years of driving I have never hit the garage door and I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later...

I am searching through classifieds and will be making a couple of calls and get me a cheaper replacement.
