Post pac swi-x and back up cameras

I have a question for those of you who have installed aftermarket headunits in your Lariats. Where did you mount the emmitter for the steering wheel controls? Was it very hard to program?

Also, where have you mounted your back up cameras? Did you tap into the back-up light wires to get power or did you power it some other way?

Thanks

I haven't installed a pac swi-x yet, but I mounted my rear view camera under the rear bumper using an elictrical outlet box I modified (pics below). I did tap into the backup lights for the camera power and the lead to trip the screen into "camera mode". However, I think I am going to go with a wire that stays hot when the ignition is on because it takes the camera 10-15 seconds to focus when its powered up to and by then you are usually through backing up.

BTW which headunit did you go with?
I have a Pioneer DVD-6600.

There are a few more pics in my gallery.

Easy to program.
I mounted the emmitter in the top center of the trim.

I mounted the backup camera to the left of my license plate. There's a hole in the steel bumper there already, just need to drill through the plastic cover. I wired mine up the the head unit. I'll be putting in an on/off switch later.

Does it work pretty good mounted there in the trim plate?

Will your camera come up on the screen when you put your truck into reverse?

Camera works great. Just replaced it with the night vision one like Ram SS/T has. Didn't wire it up to the reverse lights because I wanted to be able to use it when towing a trailer/motorcycle and not backing up. Haven't had any problems with my setup yet.

Can the camera be wired on all the time as a replacement or an addition for the rear view mirror?

Like Speedwolf says the camera works great...the night vision mode is very impressive for a camera so inexpensive (notice how I didn't say cheap). The only problem I have is that while it was at the body shop they got moisture in it and I cant figure out how to open it up so it will dry. Don't ask me how they got the water in it....I have washed it dozens of times at the car wash with the high pressure wand with no problems. I may just have to buy another one...

For the pac swi-x install, can I tap into the ground and hot wires in the radio harness or do I need to find another source?

I really like your set up...DVD player & monitors. I have a bunch of questions about how to do a set up & stuff. I have zip knowledge about it & don't wanna get ripped off when I do finally decide on what I want.
Could I ask you for some advice? Thanks Z

For the PAC, you can tap into the hot and ground wire from the stereo harness. That is the way that I wired mine. Put in quick connects for the PAC to make it easier to install (fewer things to try to funble around getting the headunit in).

or the cheap way. Mounting the camera is the easiest part of these jobs, they nicely left two holes, one on each side of the plate, for us to use.
Chris

The green color shift is a problem I had when the camera was new. The 90 degree camera just never looks as good as the 35 degree camera I use under the front. The wider angle uses up some of the camera color ability.
