Nuts and bolt missing...
Nuts and bolt missing...
I discovered an oil leak at the rear main seal on my 04' Screw and while under the truck, to my dismay, I found that I have several nuts missing from the bolts, that mount the cab of the truck to the frame. I can only imagine how unsafe my truck really is due to this and can only be thankful to God that I haven't been T-boned. I'm off to the dealer tomorrow to bitch and moan and then do the same to Ford Customer Service. I hope Ford has a good reason why a truck would leave the factory with the cab unsecured to the frame.
I'll keep you posted.

That had to be one unstable ride. With the cab loose it must have bounced around and made all kinds of noise. I can't believe you didn't notice it before. Surely you felt how loose everything felt. Your truck must have been assembled on a monday when everyone was hungover I suppose. Tomorrow I'm gonna crawl under mine and make sure everything is where its supposed to be.
Re: Nuts and bolt missing...
people complain too much, i dont think you understand, but i dont think i have a single nut on my truck. All the connections use a washer and BUILT in nut type connection.
cant wait till the dealer laughs.

The nust are missing on the passenger side but are in place on the driver soie. I have noticed a clunk on the passenger side ever since I've had the truck. I've mentioned to the dealer twice before when I had it in for oil changes but they said since it only occured on the passenger side and when I was tuning to the left, that it was probably nothing. Needless to say I was annoyed with the comment but did nothing about it.
The service manager and general manager I going to get an ear full tomorrow.

After my body lift, i was missing the nut on both sides right under the driver/passenger door...just got some from the store and put 'em on.
funny coincidence!

Mac is correct.
The cab mounts at the front of the cab, by your feeet, have captured nuts in the Torque boxes, the rear mounts hvae nuts on top on the studs that make the rear seat attachments.
All of these attachments are made from the top down.

there are no nuts on the cab mounting bolts that come through the cab and moun to the frame. there at tab nuts, or welded nuts that the bolt attach to.

As far as the oil leak at the rear main seal, dealer must be blind 'cause they said it wasn't leaking. When I got home, I checked under the truck, and what did I see, an oil leak at the rear main seal. Back again tomorrow.
On your rear main seal, mine was leaking the day I brought it home, and for the next 600 miles it 'spotted' my garage. I was not happy.
It stopped leaking at about 6-8 hundred miles. At 4000 I noticed the oil pan rear was dirty, some minor seeping, but not enough to drip.
Last oil change, at 5600, there was barely any trace of oil.
Several suggested that this is normal for a 4.6, to seep a little till the seals 'break in'. Seems to be true.
Hope it works out for you,
Chris
