Vibration (exactly what is it?)

I have a 2004 Screw FX4 with the 3.73 LS. It has about 2800 miles on it. In the last week or so I have noticed a bad vibration. It seems to start in the typical 45ish mph range. It literally was so bad I pulled over the first couple times because I thought I had a flat tire, the entire truck was shaking. No flat, and when I restarted it didn't come back. But then a couple days later, it was back. In the last week or so, I have experienced it about 4 times. But it is not consistent. And I can't get it to repeat with any regularity (and it won't do it when its at the dealer...)

So, I am wondering if this is the beginning of what everyone else is talking about, or was the other vibration consistent every time you drive. The dealership is basically saying that if it doesn't happen when they have it, then it isn't a problem.

Any help would be very appreciated as I am not sure what to do next

Thanks
John

Hopefully it'll go away. When I first bought mine it did it two days in a row, for about 15 secounds each time. I haven't had a problem since than!

There are three vibration issues with the trucks. Many people on the board mix the issues in threads and it can get very confusion for a newbie.

1) tire imbalance and a very sensitive new rack and pinion steering creates vibration in the steering wheel ( or steering nibble)
fix: dynamic road force balance the tires or in some cases, replaced tires ....all under warranty

2) driveline vibration. sometimes feels quite sever.
Fixes: have included rotating driveshafts 1/4 turn, and new driveshafts, but from what I have read on the board, it seems to be coming from the emergency brake. try it next time. pull and release the brake and it almost always goes away. that is also why sometimes stopping and starting clears the issue too.

3) vehicle NVH ( Noise, vibration, and harshness) in this case it is the harshness... the frame is significantly stiffer than the last model. but, the natural frequency of this new frame falls in with small road bumps etc.... many people, including me, are very frustrated/ aggravated with this harshness. when you hit a small bump, the vibration is very undampped and takes too long to settle.......It too the point now that i anticipate the bumps i see coming up in front of me. Vehicle Engineering at the OEM's spend lots of time and money on this topic. Toyota is the best. Ford must have traded this off for advertising claims of the stiffest frame..... just my opinion.

hope this helps

Thanks. I think mine is the middle one, the vibration is pretty severe and is intermittent. I hope that it is the e-brake. I will definately try that next time it happens.

Thanks again
John

Ask your dealer about ford forgetting to put a additive in the limited slip rear end on the 04’s!!! So now the clutches need to be replaced.
