Magnaflow 15834 installed on XLT Screw.

After a favorable experience with Magnaflow on my '97 F150, my son (a sharp Ford/diesel mechanic) and I installed the #15834 on my '04 last night...a casual (the beers came later) three hour install in a heated pro shop with all the air tools, etc. Alignment of the aft pipes/tips was the most time-consuming part of the install (about an hour). We had the OEM system dropped in 20 minutes, thanx to silicone hanger/pipe joint lubes...surprising since the OEM system was in place since the October '03 vehicle construct date. It also helped immensely to drop the spare tire (it's stored, with the jack, under my SnugLid hard tonneau) and not having a hitch to work around.

The sound, typical of Magnaflow with no cab droning, is IMO 'satisfying to the soul'. I'm a 50s guy who luvs the purring, mellow sound of straight-thru glasspaks on the Chevy inline 6 engines of my time...Magnaflow delivers in spades. No raspy, raucus, rice sounds to annoy the neighbors...just a tone that made the modified American V-8 world famous on the race circuits (e.g. Road America (Wisconsin), Watkins Glen (New York) and others).

It was $384 well spent just for the twin pipes out the back and the sense of satisfaction they offer. Increased power and gas mileage? Forget it on a 5,600 pound vehicle. It's all about sound!

Incidentally, the 'bed shake' turned into a 'bed vibe' with the relocation of the spare tire to the bed. I'm still convinced that there is too much weight aft of the newly located shock mounts on the '04-'05 models.

Hell yeah, good to hear you got the new exhaust installed. I installed mine back in October '04, and have been loving it ever since. The sound is great, and it looks great. It is very mellow at cruise, but when you open up that throttle it really barks. I have the 15834 installed on mine, but I unfortunately was one of the guinea pigs on this one, as my truck was made after May 31, 04, but no one at the time failed to disclose that to me. Anyway, one quick cut of the stock intermediate pipe and all fit perfect. Only issue I had was the rear hangers, but once I dropped the spare tire it was easy. I couldn't be happier with the install. Took me about an hour and a half start to finish, and after having the stock exhaust frop on my shoulder (OUCH!). Anyway, this is highly suggested to anyone out there who is still looking for that perfect sound and perfect looks exhaust, Magnaflow has become #1 in my books!

By the way, WHERE ARE THE PICS!?!?!?!?

Lets see how it looks on you ride, click the pic below to check mine out!

Rock on!

Hey Roboots,

I checked out your gallery..great looking truck! The nicest interior I have seen. I noticed you did the Air Raid intake as well as the magnaflow. Did you do any performance chipping? If not, how do you rate the performance change with the air intake and exhaust changes?
I'm considering just changing the exhaust and air intake and not "chipping". I have been really happy with the truck but could stand a few more ponies when towing in the Colorado mountains!
Thanks. Appreciate any help you could give.

DRHRSH, thanks for the compliments. As for the intake and exhaust, I did notice a bit of power from them, the truck seemed to be smoother off the line and just throughout the powerband. I would suggest that you do both intake and exhaust at the same time to reap the full benefits of each.

On the other hand, I would recommend "chipping" the truck. You cannot techinically "chip" the new '04-05's, but you can get a tuner. I have a Troyer tuned Xcalibrator, and it was by far the best bang for the buck mod of the three I did of intake, ehxaust, and tuner. If factory warranty is an issue, I would not worry about it, just uninstall the tuner prior to any dealership service. I HIGHLY recommend you give Mike at Troyer Performance a call, and discuss you considerations with him. If you can get a one on one discussion with him, he will have much more insight to this than I could ever give, and will tell you what you want to know.

I hope I could help some, and I just like to share what I have found with my truck with others. Good luck!
