Like I say, I will have to double check, but the shift point is right around 4,000. It sounds like the truck wasn't shifting and you indeed hit the limiter, at least for 2nd gear.
What do you mean the shift point is around 4000 RPM, (unless you are talking about the downshift RPM) everytime I have floored it before this happened, it would change gears at 5000 RPM. When it first downshifted from OD, it was somewhere in the 3000 range, didn't pay much attention since it is an automatic it should handle this on its own. Regardless, the truck will now do it from a standing start, hits ~4000 RPM starts acting up. I would understand hitting a speed limiter at 100 MPH, or putting it in neutral and flooring it and hitting the rev limiter at 5000 RPM, but not in first gear going down the road.

Like you say, I don't pay much attention since it is an automatic it should handle this on its own. But I am pretty sure that mine never goes over 4,000RPM, always shifts at or before, I will double check.

It sounds like a fuel delivery problem, can't get enough fuel into/through the injectors. Do you have a custom chip/tune ?

Nope bone stock. Dealership just called, you would know it would not do it, but the tech will ride with me to see if I can get it to do it.

FUEL PUMP!

Rode with the tech, it did not do it but even before we got in the truck, he knew what it was after I filled in the blanks. He has had two other trucks in that did the same thing, one this week. Service manager did not put all the info on the service ticket so they where thinking the 100 MPH limiter.

He told me the fuel pump does not have any sensors on it, so it will not throw a code, and will make the truck do exactly what I was experiencing. They are ordering a new fuel pump and will call me when it gets in.

That is just stupid to say man.

I understand the 4.6L is not as fast as the bigger one but to say its like Flintstone getting on the Freeway is absurd.

Did you buy your truck to haul things? If so then i can see thinking its slow.

Did you buy your TRUCK to go fast then you bought the wrong thing altogether and you should have gotten a Lightning.

I am just sick to death of people knocking the 4.6 because they think its slow.

ITS A DAM TRUCK not a Race Car

I couldn't agree more. I use my truck as a work vehicle. If I had the option, I would have LOVED a small diesel for the MPG...and it would have been slower yet...as it is, my 4.6 gets 16 MPG at 80 MPH. If I wanted to go faster, I'd have picked up a Mustang GT...hard to haul construction supplies in a Mustang, though...maybe the convertible?

When I get on the interstate everyday I go to work, and the extra power is needed to get up to speed, then you guys say it is stupid to say, I say it is stupid to not be a the speed limit when you get on the interstate. The 4.6 may be good for what you guys use, but I need the extra power to keep from getting ran over, and it is really nice when I haul and tow stuff. By the way I get over 16 MPH at 80.

And yes I would love to get a new GT500 mustang, but my budget only allows for my truck.

Ya'll should try a 4.6L with a five speed behind it. I'll take out any of your stock 5.4 autos.

So what does this faulty fuel pump do? Cut out? Not enough flow?

I merge into traffic everyday and i have no problems. And how many times do you actually get to floor your truck to get on the Freeway? Id say prob not to many since others are in front of you trying to get on the same Freeway.

I understand you just want to do it faster and that is totally your buisness

The 4.6L is plenty fast to drive on any Highway in America and have plenty of speed. If you simply want to go faster thas cool.

If you use your truck to work or haul things i can see getting a bigger engine but as for me i will keep my 4.6 and drive it with pride and confidence knowing i have none of the problems that the 5.4 guys have (Vib, Trans etc)

Nothing personal at all man and i wish all the best to you with your truck getting fixed.

I would over a 5 or 6 speed manual and a 5.4 L.

It acts like it has hit the rev or speed limiters, just starts cutting out.

Actaully I rarely floor it, but I do make a point once or twice a week to floor it, just to blow all the junk out of the tail pipe.

I love having the extra power to pass someone and not having to floor it. And I meant nothing personal either, I don't think anything is wrong with the 4.6L, I just could not believe the difference power.

Thought that they replaced the fuel pump? BTW, I checked the WOT 2-3 shift, it is at exactly 5,000rpm indicated by the tach.
