Drives Easier...
As a fellow 17 year old and only a junior in high school and can honsetly say my parents have spoiled me. My truck was completely paid off the day they bought it and i honestly have never seen the insurance bill. Though I may not have a 4x4 lariat screw, I still know im extremely luckily to have such a nice truck handed to me on a platter. And thus, I have worked my **** off abd right now I have a 4.67 gpa and I'm a candidate for 3 different full paid scholarships to Texas A&M. I had to beg my mom to let me even apply for one job at discount tire. Her belief is a full paid education is worth a whole lot more than $6 an hour. Though what kelmvor said makes complete sense, I dont think it applies to everyone. Back on track with the post: as for lowering insurance, along with the good ol drivers ed i took an extra defensive driving course a year ago that i get a 10% discount on. You can check and see if theres anything similar.
PS - I have paided for all my mods....

Yeah... They will... but you know me (well you don't), but once I get my mind set on something... :-). I will post pictures when I get the truck... I probably won't be much of a modder though... I was wondering... Can anyone with the blackish interiour please post pictures of there dash (the gauges). I'm only askin this because Ford don't give... very many pictures that are.... model specific... I'm trying to figure out the differnce between the Lariat and the XLT. I really like the tires on the Lariat, but they are different on the XLT (lol I'm boaring so I plan to keep the factory tries).

Patrick just keep us posted. Last week I bought the 05 F150 XLT Scab for my wife and myself. Today I saw a very cherry 04 screw 4x4 with only,,,yes only 7k miles on it. I might have to sell my harley and fifthwheel to get it. We don't use either very much anymore. Choices choices! Wife just told me if I agree to sell the harley which she hates I can buy it. She also told me if I sell both that I have her permission to order a 05 screw 4x4. Ok now I'm currently salivating over what to do.

Well it has somewhat become a race between my wife and myself as to who drives the new truck. She always wins as do most wifes. She used to hate trucks. All trucks in fact until we got this one. So my only choice is to purchase another. I've got a company supplied truck which I cannot stand (04 Dodge). So it looks like we will have two new F150s very soon. God help me I'm going to be searching these threads for mods. I'm going to explain to my wife who's to blame for the extra money I'll spend on the next F150. I'm certain she will join this forum just to let them know whats on her mind and yall all know who you are!
Thats weird... I'm not on my DSL right now, but I'll be on it eventoually and when I am I'll post picks of my g-pa's truck. My grandpa wants to buy one of the new 250's and he wants to give his f150 to my grandma (she currently drives an explorer). She's not the type to drive the f150 so he might sell it to me. So I might end up with that one. I wouldn't be complaining.

Back to Insurance.......
I turned 25 yo back in Oct. 2004, and I was thinking "Yeah!! My insurance drops like a rock!", but it didn't. It went from $110/m to $100/m for a 2002 F-150 SCAB 4.2L V6 Sport. I have 1 speeding ticket on my record form over a year ago, adn the only reason it's on my record is because in Texas if you have a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and you get a moving violation, it goes on your record....period.....the end......that's all folks. Nothing you can do, even in your own vehicle........Anyway.
So my insurance was $100 on that truck and it went back to $110 when I bought my new 2005 SCREW Texas Edition 4.2L V8.
What is boils down to is......
Ask for discounts?-->anti-lock brake, grades, defensive driving, multi-car, multi-policy, air bags, anti theft, discounts for paying yearly instead of monthly, good driver disc....etc. ANYTHING that means you are less likely to file a claim, or if you DO file a claim anything that makes it cheaper.
That is why I'm still in a 4x2, and not 4x4.
And think of operating costs also......mine costs me $700/month total operating costs.(gas, maintenance, truck payment, insurance)
And SHOP AROUND!!!!!!
I'd offer yo ua beer, but your underage, so have a nanner!!!

Well when it comes to shopping around... I don't have a choice. I have to go on my parents insurance. The only operating costs I think I'll have are about $100 to $150 per month... $20 per week in gas and maybe an $8 car was here and there. I dunno, I new to the whole driving thing
. HEY! What do you guys think of buying a used (or new) truck on eBay, do you truck eBay enough to actoually buy something that expensive from it?

Because of your age, if you purchase a brand new vehicle theirs just no way to get around the price of insurance. Even a 4x4 f150 compared with a 4x2 will not make much of a difference. And this is normal for 16 thru even up to 25 yrs of age with some insurance companies. I'm an insurance agent and I see this all the time, a parent coming in with their son/daughter checking on pricing for a brand new model vehicle and the parent just about fainting when they find out how much it is. The others have brought up good points though, such as good student discounts, driver safety classes, etc. I would recommend contacting a few different insurance agencies and see if they have anything less expensive for you. Another possibility would be to co-title the vehicle in your name and father/mothers and add it to your folks insurance policy, enabling you to get their discounts (credit score if applicable, multi-policy, multi-car discounts, etc.). This would be a lot less then getting a policy in just your name alone, just an idea. When I was 16 I would have loved to have a brand new ford truck but of course that did not happen. So I say go for it if you can swing the truck, gas and insurance!
