Question Tools to keep with me...

Hey guys, most of you know I am new, and yes I have tried to seach...

My wife bought me a little tool bag to keep in the truck, any suggestions as to what tools or supplies I should keep with me.

What are some of the things you never leave home without?

Thanks guys.

Used to be there were lots of repair items you could fix on the side of the road. But these new trucks are all computer controlled. I used to carry lots of tools but not any more. I carry my Diablo tuner in the glovebox and can read any engine codes with that. I have the ability to change a flat tire with the stock tools. I carry a high quality set of jumper cables. Other than that, just simple stuff like pliers and screwdrivers. I'm not going to fix much on the side of the road other than a flat tire.

The most important emergency tool today is a cell phone.

You drive a Ford, you don't need any tools.

Its under warrenty and Ford has roadside assistance....so the only tool I really need is my cell phone, but I do keep a Glock 17C in the map pocket behind the passengers seat "just in case"!

An ABC fire extinguisher and a basic first aid kit are good ideas. A good flashlight (Maglite, Surefire, Streamlight) with extra batteries. Bungie cords and tow straps have billions of different uses. Pair of work gloves (I like Mechanix brand gloves) and a blanket or fender cover or something, for crawling around under your truck and on the ground should you have to change a tire. Speaking of which, I bought a long 1/2" pull handle and a 21mm socket to use instead of the wimpy *** lug wrench they give you from the factory. One of those Craftsman tool sets, the little ones that comes in a case about the size of a box of cereal has most anything you'll need to tinker with on the side of the road, anything more than that, it's time to call roadside assistance.

Put your Xcalibrator in there, that's all you'll need.

I carry a good set of jumper cables, screwdrivers and pliars, good tie down ratchets, and a chain. I've gotten more use out of the chain than anything. You never know when you're gonna come across someone who needs un-stuck!

This brings me to a question, why don't our trucks have locking glove boxes!?

a small bunch of 12" cable ties also wouldn't hurt. They have many uses. Possibly a roll of "Kentucky Chrome" too.

Fuses Fuses, and Fuses. Perhaps a relay or two as well. These mini fuses are hard to find at a gas station some times. I got a big kit that has all sizes of them, including a tester that works with the fuse installed.
Ford saved a few dollars buy not giving us any spares...

If anyone really wants an inventory of all the tools and stuff I carry in my truck, I'll gladly list it, but I don't want to suck up all of Steve's bandwidth...

$5 per lock x 1 million trucks = $5,000,000 in savings.
