I am thinking of getting an indash unit like the Kenwood DDX7015. My question is, is there any way to hook up a back up camera and have the head unit auto switch to that input when the truck is put in reverse. I know all factory setups are programmed like this and I really want this feature. Anyone know if this is possible or if there are any headunit/camera combos that would allow this? Thanks.

The Kenwood DDX7015 has a auto setting. I have one and mine only comes on when I put it in reverse. You will need to power the camera via the reverse lights wire harness.

I'm putting in a switch to turn the reverse camera on and off. I want to be able to use it when towing my motorcycle/snowmobile to keep on eye on things, so don't want to hardwire it to reverse lights. Will post pics of the switches when I get it done.
I've taken out the ashtray and made an insert plate to mount the switch to, to make a clean install. Also putting in a couple extra switches for when I get some fog/driving lights and a bumper guard.

 

Hmmmm... anybody wire it both ways? A switch to manually kick it on when you want, and auto other times? Now that would be hella-cool...

 

Yes, use a pair of diodes. One fed from the reverse lights, one fed from the manual switch.
