Arrow Looking for an intake system....

Howdy all!!!

As you can see I'm new to the forums. I recently purchased an '04 F-150 Lariat 5.4 ltr V8.

The gas mileage has been butt rape, and I'm looking for a way to increase her suficiency.

What are the leading intake systems out there? I'm sure Volant makes one among others, but which one has been proven to be th ebest?

Has anyone typed up a review/comparison yet?

ANy info would be great. Thanks!

-Nick

Go to troyerperformance.com and check ou the intake kits. Currently only the AirRaid kit won't cause a lean condition on the new 3v 5.4's.

Lean conidition?

Can anyone else verifiy this?

So your saying the Volant and other systems cause problems once installed?

What is different about the Troy Performance unit that doesn't cause this problem?

I really like the Volant after viewing some photos of it.....

rcracer755,

I installed the Volant with the snorkel in june '04 and haven't had a problem with it what so ever. The install instructions were lousy and the "roar" took a little getting used to especially with Gibson Supertruck exhaust but now the sound is a real head turner when I start her up.

I heard that lean conditions were caused in low-temperature climates. I'm in Cleveland, kept the Volant on all winter (inlcuding the snorkel) and it ran beautifully. The truck really felt more powerful as the air began to chill. It's been in for routine service twice and no flags have gone up about it (although I guess none would if the service guys weren't looking for a lean condition in particular).

Bottom line it depends on your vehicle because even Volant's techinical support said not all 2004 F150s were experiencing lean conditions, just enough for a redesign however many that is. A few people here have the Volants and I think someone in New York ran into the lean condition a few months back. Not sure if it was linked to the intake or not. Do a search on Volant in the 2004-2005 F150 forum and that should bring you up to date on the issues.

Hopes this helps

Airaid is the only intake kit that is safe and makes hp. The Air Force One will be another good one but it has not been released as of yet.

EASY BOYS... EASY

everyone here always plugs Troyer on here, I haven't been here long so I don't know if they are a sponsor of the site, but I am cautious of what I believe because I have heard so many plugs for Troyer Performance.. As with others like the HID lighting guy who plugs his company... (I don't mean any disrespect; I am just stating my opinion)

Looks like the AF1 kit is avalible: http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...atalogno=16418

Would this be a better way to go over the AirRaid?

I personally went with the Volant offering same as mentioned above.

Do ... use the search on these sites when trying to dig for product information!

I use more than one site ... and have noticed that some posts get moved out of view if it has positive references to certain products. Demoted so to speak. Not a bad thing necessarily ... just something to keep in mind. Another site tends to bleep things in a similar way. Such as the word troyer ... battle of the forums for sure!

Not everybody is biased and there's good information to be had. After awhile you can spot a sales pitch, dig or robotic action. Just something that probably can't be gotten away from and still maintain good knowledge & real experience to draw from. Bills must be paid so I've heard!

What is best for some is not always best for others. Some products or people post $ driven data that took aligning stars to achieve or maybe just simple stretching the ends of optimal conditions to achieve the best results or claims for whatever reason. Don't be afraid to use common sense and make up your own mind. Not everything printed in black and white is true!

How much throttle response improvement or overall improvement have you guys noticed? Im curious because I hesitate to get an intake because of the price of them for the 04/05 trucks. I have never had to spend so much on a simple intake system with an open element. Seems like alot to pay for a simple system. After purchasing the wheels and tires, tint and suspension, I am trying to keep any additional costs down.

I know it’s on their web page but if you call, they’ll tell you it not available yet. Troyer’s been doing the R&D on the AF/1 and he says when it’s ready it will be the one to have (biggest hp & torque gains throughout the full rpm range) I’ve been holding off getting anything else for a year now waiting for its release.

Oh, ok. Thanks for the great info.

Around $300 for an intake isn't bad at all. Be happy you don't have a BMW.
