In my case I don't have a GPS but I'm sure I can plug one in if I had to and yes you can drive with the screen up .

Very cool for long haul with passengers .

Right now Im just stuck between two units...

Kenwood Navigation Package KNA-DV4100 navigation system KVT-715DVD DVD receiver with 7" LCD video monitor

or...

Kenwood Navigation Package KNA-DV4100 navigation system DDX7015 DVD receiver with 6.5" LCD video monitor

I have another question, how hard is it going to be to get the PS2 hooked up? Im thinking about putting it in the center console along with the navigational unit.

Funny thing is I just checked out Ebay and they are selling these things for like half of the cost from Crutchfield. Im kind of sketchy about buying something that'd cost this much from Ebay. Does anyone know any place online that I could order from thats cheaper than Crutchfield?

Don't hesitate to buy from ebay, just research the seller. Look for someone who has sold the unit you want in the past and has positive feedback. There are many trustworthy sellers on ebay. I have bought systems for 2 cars from a seller named "caraudioshoppe" and have had no problems in 2 years. The businesses on ebay that specialize in car audio/video sell for basically wholesale and then make their money on shipping costs. You absolutely can't beat the prices. If you're worried about spending that much on ebay pay with Paypal and purchase the buyer protection for a small fee. You'll come out way cheaper even after purchasing buyer protection.

I bought my Pioneer Avic-N1 on ebay for $1400. You will not find a better bargain than this unit.

You asked if you can use the navigation while driving and the answer is yes you can. I do all the time.

Here's a review of the Avic-N1 that I found helpful. http://cars.ign.com/articles/526/526842p1.html

One last thing. Look into the Avic-N1 instead of the Avic-N2. I know you'll save money and I don't think they upgraded it much at all. They both retail for $1999 but you will be able to find the avic-N1 cheaper.

Hope I've helped.

Ive been doing my research, the AVIC-N2 will NOT work while driving and you can't just simply ground it out. While even the AVIC-N1 they are trying to send people Update Version 3 which won't allow you to use it going over 4 mph. Everyone that is thinking about getting these head units might want to hold off on their other upgrades and get this first. A friend of mine in the audio industry told me in about a year you won't be able to find one that can play while driving. Even by grounding it out...

Funny thing is I found a $2300 head unit on ebay for $800. Sounds pretty hott to me!

I don't get why they'd do that. All these navigation systems that come stock in cars can be used while driving, right? So why would an aftermarket unit be any different? And if you can't used it while driving, what's the point? You won't know where you're going.

Glad I got my Avic-N1 when I did.

You may not be able to find a unit that will PLAY VIDEO while driving in a year, but they won't get rid of navigation while you're driving, that is what it's made of. From what I've seen the only difference from the avic-n1 and the avic-n2 is that the new one has traffic updates that show you accidents and how fast it is moving. It can re-route you to find a quicker way. I think there's a fee for that service from XM and who would need it unless you live in L.A.

Thumper, did you find any of this info on the internet? If so please give me some links. I am interested to know if I can buy the upgraded map discs for my N1 without any problems.

Im a member of this website with forums for everything. This guy named Tyler who is an audio installer in California was the one who has been giving me the information. He said as long as you don't get the Version 3 or something you'll be fine. He said just to reject it. The N2 can't play DVDs while driving currently and he said as far as he knows Alpine totally did away with it!

Im sure someone will eventually be able to hack into the units but thats going to take some time. Im praying that I can pick up a unit that plays DVDs while driving. Right now Im going with the Pioneer 7500DVD without navigation, and if I want I'll just upgrade later!

Maybe this will help a little. I have the kenwood ddx7015 with two additional screens in the seat headrests. It will play while driving to all three screens. It is all touch screen or remote controlled. Yes you can run a PS2 through it. I do. Mine is also set up to run a movie to a screen, a movie to another screen and then I can still listen to the stereo in the truck. (I have a set of wireless headphones also). It is also capable of running Navigation and a TV tuner into it. I just have not done it yet.

My brother sells and installs car stereo equipment (has for a number of years) and he says that Kenwood makes the best DVD player on the market and it is much cheaper than the rest. BUT, do not be fooled by thinking that because they are cheaper than a Pioneer system etc, they are a lower quality product. I am very pleased with the system.

Also, my playstation plug are run into the console and then out of the ack of the console. I do not think you could realistically place the PS2 IN the console. I have mine under the rear seat with the cords run under the carpet and hooked into the plugs in the console.

Hope this helps

Eclipse blows other double din in-dash systems out of the water. The new line coming in a month or so is hella-cool. Web site doesn't have the new stuff yet...
