I dont mind that it is plastic - but the shiny chrome of the top part always seems to reflect sun back into my eyes when the sun is in the right place (all the way to work in the morning) and it drives my crazy - I will just have to figure a way to cover it.

that end piece should be available.

They broke on the 97-03 and 99-present Superduties ALL the time.

For the dealer to tell you you need a whole new shifter, he's BSing you.

Go find another dealer who is a little more honest about parts (and the part should only be a few dollars)
The shift handle is a whole unit (only).

I bought one when I was researching the billet shift handle.

It cost around $40 the way I remember.

Of course this whole thread is sort of pointless, because a pennies worth of Super Glue would resolve his problem.

i am very dissapointed with ford and the dealership where i bought my ****ty truck. EVERY F'ING THING I LOOK AT IS MADE FROM CHEAP CHINESE PLASTIC!
i'll have you know the plastic from the MING DYNASTY is some of the finest in the world. j/k...
hope things work out for you. i guess that's why they say not to get the first year of a new model. i'm lucky/proud to say i've never had any problems like that with any of the fords i've had in the past...'83 mustang gt, '89 bronco II, '03 edge, and hopefully the '04 lightning i get tomorrow.
