The chrome peice on my shifter is loose, so I hope it doesn't fall off. I don't expect Ford to use anything but cheap plastic. I've been driving Fords for more nearly 15 years now and they have always had cheap plastic that comes loose and rattles. Fortuntately, I don't live on dirt roads anymore as this helps considerably.

I'm thinking of buying a net Vette...'cause Mustang SUCKS, and even for 50K, you still get cheap plastic. It's great to buy American.

My POS BMW has plastic... EVERY car, truck & bike has plastic in/on/around it. Don't blame Ford for your skewed outlook on the auto industry...

The 12 million dollar jet I fly has plastic everywhere. The keyboard I used to type this message is plastic. Give you a 100% steel truck and you'll spend your days filling up with 10 dollar a gallon gas. Get with the program or move on... it's that simple, trade it in and buy something without plastic

Its amazing, everything now is plastic and it costs more than years ago when they made stuff to last for pennies. I miss the old days!

All the plastic was the deal clincher for me; it’s strong, lite, lasts longer and looks better.

Actually it wasn't made to last... it was made that way since they didn't have other options yet. If plastic materials & molding procedures of today exsisted 30 years ago... the 'built to last' vehicles would have been chock full of plastic as well.

Oh man! Two separate shifts! No wonder nothing fits right!

You'd think all that extra time would make for a perfect truck!

I 2nd this, our BMWs whole shifter is made out of plastic?

Every single manufacture makes stuff out of plastic for vehicles, were already driving a tank as it is. If vehicle manufactures made cars like you wanted we might end up with 6 mpg and thinking we were riding in a horse n buggy.

that end piece should be available.

They broke on the 97-03 and 99-present Superduties ALL the time.

For the dealer to tell you you need a whole new shifter, he's BSing you.

Go find another dealer who is a little more honest about parts (and the part should only be a few dollars)

nope 04f150guy is right it's only available as an assembly. This shifter is considerably different than the column shifters and has no servicable parts.
