Can you hook the mirrors up to the factory switch and eliminate the aftermarket switch?
|
So, are the mirrors that you buy identical to the original mirrors. I know they are Ford, but I have turn signals and heated mirrors in mine not to mention that I love the look and shape of the mirrors that come stock. I am assuming they are from the 05 King Ranch edition mentioned a few post back but wanted to make sure.
Also, what about hooking them up to an auxilary power source so they fold and unfold when the vehicle is turned on or off. From what I could tell you need them to close when you enter/exit your garage but I dont need that so auto folding mirrors would be even better for me.... |
I cleaned out the garage yesterday so I could fit the 150 in along with the wifey's Honda. The 8' wide doors require that I pull in the drivers side mirror... all I could think about was this mod the whole time... Damn these big arse trucks!

A couple of answers to the questions posted above.
1. The mirrors on the King Ranch look the same as the Lariat, XLT, FX4. The style looks different on the XL/STX but my guess is that the mount would work from the pictures I have seen. 2. Factory Switch - I could not get it to work with the factory switch. Believe I tried. Bob Chapman's installer could not get it to work and I never talked to his installer. Maybe we are doing something wrong - good luck if you can get it to work. 3. The mirrors will close/open without the car on or the key in the ignition. The way Bob and I wired our Power Folding mirrors is in some ways better tha the Ford solution. I have the option to stop the mirrors half way to see how much room I have backing out of the garage. The Ford solution on a King Ranch is all or nothing. You don't have the option to stop the mirrors half way, etc. Hope this helps. |
I'm jealous bsm2001, not just of your fine mirror job, but the fantastic job you did with the instructions. They are a model to strive for.

Wow....that looks like a factory generated bullentin instructions if I ever saw one....awesome job! Just for grins could you post a short video clip of the mirrors folding in+out. That would be way cool....!
Thanks again! |
Thanks BSM2001, Bob Chapman, et al
Installed my power folding mirrors yesterday - using BSM2001's Instructions. Perfect - not the install, the Instructions! They make the impossible possible.
Here are a couple of choices I made for switch and relay locations. Otherwise, the install is textbook BSM2001. Special note to Bob - I know you know I'm the smarta@@ that posted the Power Folding Mirror tool - it was done with kindest of intentions. https://www.f150online.com/galleries...946-118323.jpg https://www.f150online.com/galleries...946-118322.jpg |
You guys should post a short video of the mirrors folding in and out. LOL I want to see it, I would install, but there is no use for it around here.

Walter150-
On the relays, where did you get the plug looking thing that the wires go into? Do those come with the relays? I am waiting for the mirrors to arrive this week, and have been trying to get all the other parts together. The install looks real clean behind the radio like that. Did you have to drill the holes, or were they already there? Nice job! And thanks bsm2001 for the install instructions. |
I bought them on Ebay from cobymoby for $14.93 including shipping. They are Bosch and were sold with the generic connector as a set. Here is a link to a similar item from a different seller:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...sPageName=WDVW I used 1/2" #12 metal screws and drilled the holes for them. After the picture was taken, I ran the ground connection to the back screw and it works fine. |

Bob:
My tool served me well for several months but, alas, it is now retired - free to a good home. Wally |
Is there harness for the switch, like for the relays?
Durr. .187 connects. Nevermind:o |
One more question... Are the puddle lamps supposed to come on?
